But it was, and is; the Belmonts and Dracula, were given a defined origin and an explanation as to why - the Morris' were elaborated on, as was Dracula's motive (he actually HAS motive now) and many of the peices that simply did not fit were removed (CV64, LoD, Circle of the Moon, etc.)
Although it may be worth noting that the removed games came after Symphony.
What IGA did with the resurrection was smart - he changed it from a rule to a guideline and allowed partial resurrections/premature resurrections. Without that, the series couldn't possibly have gotten so many games because after only 6-9, we would have run out of years to use. By making partial resurrections, he wouldn't have to worry about that and could simultaneously write more interesting stories that follow around his resurrection beyond just '___ BELMONT SETS OUT ON A JOURNEY TO DRACULA'S CASTLE TO KILL HIM...'
