Nice Pics --the concept art is really quite striking.

Castlevania Bloodlines was a massive mistake.

I don't agree with this.  Before Iga came on board, there was a very simple story thread that tied everything together: Dracula resurrects every hundred years, and it is up to a Belmont descendant to defeat him and his army of monsters.  Very simple.  It was possible back then to tell self-contained stories that fell within that general framework.  It wasn't until Iga came on board as producer, published a timeline and attempted to connect all the stories together (and discarded the ones that didn't suit his purposes), and added many of his own elements to the story that the timeline became a "huge inconsistent mess".
That's part of it, though. Every game was a self-contained story. It was to the point where things were happening for no reason, which made no sense. Where did John morris come from? Was that ever explained? What about the different explanations for where various other things came from? Poltergeist king, what the fuck is that?

I also love how the implication was he came back every one hundred years, on the dot, yet we had dates like 1476, 1697 and 1914.

I'd make a more detailed and explanatory post but I don't exactly feel like it right now, its way too hot and I'm tired.

The massive size of the castle in this game(from the artwork) reminds me a lot of Carmilla's castle from Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Like a castle the size of a small city. That's how I always thought Dracula's castle should look like.

That castle looks cool, but it's missing the staircase.

To be fair, Gizmonichan, IGA didn't really help a lot in that regard. As far as I know, he still maintained that the hundred year resurrection thing was canon, while also adding stuff like 'premature' resurrections and stuff. I love IGA, but let's not pretend the timeline was any less of a mess after he was done with it than before.  ::) 8) :-X :-[ :P :-*

But it was, and is; the Belmonts and Dracula, were given a defined origin and an explanation as to why - the Morris' were elaborated on, as was Dracula's motive (he actually HAS motive now) and many of the peices that simply did not fit were removed (CV64, LoD, Circle of the Moon, etc.)
Although it may be worth noting that the removed games came after Symphony.

What IGA did with the resurrection was smart - he changed it from a rule to a guideline and allowed partial resurrections/premature resurrections. Without that, the series couldn't possibly have gotten so many games because after only 6-9, we would have run out of years to use. By making partial resurrections, he wouldn't have to worry about that and could simultaneously write more interesting stories that follow around his resurrection beyond just '___ BELMONT SETS OUT ON A JOURNEY TO DRACULA'S CASTLE TO KILL HIM...'

I already explained it.

Publishing the timeline was a bad idea, to him, because it ultimately limited the room he had to work with. IGA himself isn't a fan of history, so I don't particularly blame him on that.

And I don't "admit it" because I disagree - there's nothing to admit.

Yup, and a flimsy motive at that.

Maybe the reason it was Morris and not Belmont was because maybe there wasn't a viable Belmont available at the time? Maybe they were all women (Going with the ever-so-popular belief that a female Belmont can't possibly fight the Undead), or small young boys?

And since Aria of Sorrow (Julius) wasn't even THOUGHT of when Bloodlines was made - what if all the Belmonts had just been bred out?

Dunno...wasn't this information revealed or at least hinted at in another interview? About Gabe being a Belmont? Or am I mistaken?
