Hahaha. Ya know, that sounds pretty worth the watch. Showing Lords of Shadows, then THAT. And IGA trying to actually say something good about it maybe. Oh man. I can't miss this.

I wish him good luck and hope that the game will be at least as profitable as its predecessors.

I wonder why IGA came all the way to LA for a sucky downloadable game. Maybe he got something up his sleeve?  :-X

Is there even any confirmation that IGA has his hands on Harmony of Despair?

Anyway, LoS looks fantastic. Definitely a day 1 buy for me.

I still think we might get a 3DS title. I hope anyway. Downloaded the trailer while it was still up on youtube and watched it this morning. Amazing. Vampire Killer at the end got me all...emotional. XD

If it's another Metroidvania I'm gonna flip a table. GIVE ME MORE TRADITIONAL CASTLEVANIA KONAMI.

This one's up right now:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jYrYr7ZCm8

Until this afternoon's conference, they're likely going to keep pulling them down, and people will keep right along adding them, so if it goes down, just search in youtube for "Lords of Shadow" and sort the results by upload date 'Today.' The runtime is 4:53. So if there's a Lords of Shadow video of that length uploaded today, chances are that's it.
If I forgot "everything I knew about Castlevania" I certainly wouldn't be excited about a new one coming out now would I?

Time for Iga to commit seppuku. Kojima and Mercurysteam are now the Castlevania masters.

I like the design for the characters in IGA's version better or his timeline sorta..... for the most part anyway. So far, Zobek and Gabriel's cool, but Carmilla is ughy. But anyway, I like Trevor's design both in the original's design and his CoD design. Alucard's design is cool, as well as Dracula's and Richter's from SotN...

I'm not feeling it. I mean, it's a big change to Castlevania but in the general scheme of things in gaming, it looks fairly standard and uncreative. Nothing really catches my eye.

Also, invisible walls when the game is heavily based on platforming is just stupid even if during a tutorial. Especially when it's on a log Gabriel can obviously jump over, but no, he has to slide because it's the tutorial. Of course, if I were to make it, I wouldn't put a log there, but something more akin to a wall so it would, uh, make sense that you can't jump over it. This little tidbit also raises my suspicions for the rest of the game too.

Consider that the game is supposed to have really intense platforming segments yet has a part where you can't even jump over a log when you clearly jump high enough (you also apparently turn a bit floaty), that sort of thing creates a severe disconnect with the world. The game's own world seems inconsistent with itself and is split into these strict segments. This is further set in concrete with how Cox says a level structure will go like: combat -> platforming -> puzzle -> boss. And now I've seen it evident more so with the switch to horseback combat and confirmed use of QTEs (even though Cox hates them so why cox ;-;.) This lends more to my doubt that there will be a segment that combines combat and platforming. I guess puzzle and combat are covered with those SoTC bosses.

Of course, taking puzzles on account... I really doubt they will make a puzzle that will actually connect with the world, considering they took the "good ol'"/horrible reflect lights off of mirrors puzzle. I can't even recall an action game that did puzzles well enough that they felt consistent with the rest of the game's world. Probably something they should have never considered putting in. In all those games, it seems like an forced break from combat so you don't get worn out on the monotony.

It looks like a good game, sure, but it won't be a outstanding one that'll have the power to stay in our hearts. I'm not saying IGA is doing it any better but he isn't. He's doing the pinnacle of horrible. OoE was completely terrible in maintaining one style. The areas and even the sprites had different styles. Clash clash clash. But since this is the rebirth of Castlevania, LoS really needs to be more than just a good game. So I am now nagger.

i must say i am extremely fond of that bloody tears line because it contains such a delicious level of narm. like that it's keeping with castlevania tradition to have bad lines. plus it has patrick stewart AND bad lines, so that's just... amazing. best part about the game.

Can you name the parts in OoE that has different styles? I don't remember anything that seems too different from each other.

I hear you thernz, and while I don't agree with everything you said I really don't like the QTEs. There weren't supposed to be any. Though I guess it's hard to not have them if you want stylish combat, dunno...

Anyway, having seen lots of screenshots and that new trailer I am confident that this game will be super varied and dynamic, and I like that! Even if it means that there will be puzzles that don't connect to the storyline, or feel out of place. I think Mercurysteam is doing the right thing with the 1/3 combat, 1/3 platforming and 1/3 puzzles.

Also, Gabriel would never try to escape by jumping over a log, so any player who tries to do that will only sorta get the message "You're not doing this the way Gabriel would've. Go back and kill those monsters, you know you want to!" lol.
