I'm glad the combat isn't enough to carry the game, honestly. If it was, it means they would have put far too much focus into combat for a Castlevania game, and all the other features would have suffered.

I mean, think about it, if Castlevania IV was all whipping monsters with no other features, it would have been boring as heck.

So, you think making one part better than the rest is worst than making it all mediocre?

He is saying that focusing on adventuring and plat-forming make a better game than focusing on combat. It is the same old GoW vs. Bayonetta/DMC argument. He just takes a little logic leap to get there from what the preview actually says.

I'd rather any part of the game being able to carry the game, rather then having to have teh entire package. I usually love combat. Platforming and such are fun too, but combat is what usually gets me to replay and replay and replay.

"I don’t want to be Mr. Castlevania.  I want to do Lords of Shadow and maybe do another one, but after that I would love to see what other people bring to the series and the Castlevania mythology." /Dave Cox

That is kinda cool, though if he proves to do the series justice, Konami won't let him go easily..
But yeah, it's definitely time for Castlevania to be handled by different people every once in a while, not getting stuck ever again.

Yeah, I wouldn't like either MS to be the one and Only Cv team, nor Cox being "self proclaimed CV god" as you know who, its just like Batman's Chris Nolan, he's GOD, and people is dying to watch tthe third one, but after that i wouldn't be good for him to return, just finish his saga epicly (?) and let other people create new mythology, and then in some 25 years come back again, so the charm is nt lost :D

Everything comes full circle

I would also love to see the Castlevania series handeled by more than one team. :)

I personally don't want more than one person handling CV, because when you have many people generating lore, there are chances that the lore will just get messed over by people wanting to change things. Maybe teams to make the actually game, but I'd like the story to stay consistent.

I was thinking more in the lines of letting a developer like Wayforward or Arc System either remake the old 2D games (Simons Quest, Legends etc) or make new games within IGA's Castlevania universe.

I'll take varied developers over some contrived lore any day.

There's value in shared plot points and a some what stable time line, but I play a game to have fun, not to read plot summaries in instruction manuals.

Take the Legend of Zelda for example. The lore in those games are as screwy as all hell, and yet there's enough to tie the series together. Heck, Final Fantasy doesn't even have lore. It's a new world almost every game and yet we still see every one as a Final Fantasy. I would have no problem if Castlevania went the Legend of Zelda route.

That's assuming that the games are good. Just because it's developers are varied doesn't mean it's good.

Yea, that's why I don't like Zelda's story. Alone they're okay... and there are only a couple of Zelda games I like. Final Fantasy have lore, a great deal, but it's all presented in game, rather than spread throughout a series because the series is designed as single games... til....... FFX-2.

But as CV, it was going for a consistent storyline, and I want it to continue doing that, instead of 20 games that have a half assed relationship that the nintendo guy try to string together by saying there's 2 lines of worlds or whatever with 2 different links and 20 different zelda or whatever. He shouldn't even have tried, it just made it seem dumber.
