I may be the only one who thinks that the time machine only affects the castle itself instead of thinking that "Gabe is gonna go back in time and save everyone."

It's probably gonna serve as a gameplay mechanic to solve puzzles or reach area's that were unreachable in the present.

Oh and the occasional hands on look at the former founders before their acsension and maybe a look at the castle before it got all cold and shit.

I remember Prince of Persia having somewhat similiar puzzles where you went back in time to climb structures and what not that are crumbled in the present.
