Also, the idea of somebody just naming themselves Belmont sounds... Dunno... bad.

Considering Gabriel did EXACTLY that makes this line pretty funny lol.

Alucard was never Alucard's real name. It was Adrian Fahrenheit Tepes.
OMG RLY?

And considering Gabe abandoned his name of Gabriel, then he is no longer a Belmont in Name. He has taken on his new name. Now, if he goes the mathias way and changes his full name to Vlad Tepes and shit, then we can have our Alucard pretty much like always was. a Tepes. (or in any case, just not a Belmont)
so why is it ok for Gabe to change his name but if someone else adapts the name Belmont you consider it "bad?"

It's all pretty dumb "if you think about it."

Im standing by the "Alucard/Adrian Belmont" theory, it's just crazy and absured enough to actually happen.

And believe me I got a feeling it's gonna happen.

Yeah really.  It says so in the SotN instruction manual.  As for why he started to call himself Alucard, there's nothing said anywhere, but many people speculate that it's to show that he was against his father.  After all, Alucard is Dracula spelled backwards.

He was being sarcastic, I think.

Gabriel gave himself the Surname Belmont because as an orphan, he had NO surname. His being a Cronqvist bastard was merely a rumor. Cant be proven one way or another, and even then he is a bastard. Unwanted, unnamed. The Brotherhood named him Gabriel, after the Archangel, And eventually, He gave himself the Surname of Belmont due to his love of the mountains.

Once he became Dracula, He abandoned both his name and surname, and rechristened himself. (though so far he has only given us "Dracul" to work with, so we dont know if he gave himself a full name or what) Abandoning your name for a new one is a COMPLETELY different beast than giving yourself a name when you formerly had none.

For a new protagonist to give himself the surname Belmont, anything other than a direct family tie would just feel corny. And wouldnt even BE a Belmont by blood, but in name only.

*In b4 Gabriel is a Belmont in name only too* No he is not, since he is the first Belmont of this continuity. He took on the family name Belmont, and is thus the original Belmont. Where any future family got their name.

I agree, that's why it makes sense that he get's remarried somewhere along the line. That or he is the only Belmont :'(

Believe me or not, but I think Mr. Cox will make some 'HELL YES' plot twists in the two DLC's.

I'm not holding my breath, honestly. But if he does, I'd be pleasantly surprised.
