I loved the Dracolitch fight. dunno what it is, but something about it is awesome.

I did too.  Didn't expect it.  Cox had said we'd see some old enemies returning but in a new form/light.  He wasn't kidding. It wasn't Death as me know him but it was clever and well done. The 5-minute trial was a good test too.

My hopes are shattered, Cox just told me in twitter they have no any plans for the series 25th anniversary (26/09/11) :( Resident Evil is getting 5 GAMES for its 15th anniversary in one year 3 of them for HD consoles, and we get none, and if we do, it will probaly be a 3DS metroidvania.  :(

Ah that sucks to read. I'm hoping for a big blast for this anniversary!

(However, OC ReMix will try to have Vampire Variations for CV's 25th Anniversary :P)

That's probably not Cox's fault. Mercury Steam is just a production studio. Without money from a publisher like Konami, they can't do anything.

I recall reading once that Japanese have been viewing video games as "quaint" for quite some time now. At least I'd like to say that's the word I read. Anyway, it wasn't good, and may offer some explanation as to how the video game industry has largely moved away from that country in recent years and why Japanese companies like Konami and Capcom just don't seem to give a shit about their franchises anymore.

He only said Mercurysteam got nothing planned. There's no need to be disappointed. Yet.

Also, Konami released the two Tribute Albums as an anniversary gift. I think.

To me that fight was more of an interpretation of

but I see what you mean.

Still kinda hated the titan fights, but the Dracolich was the best of them, I think.

Yeah, me too. Which isn't to say that the game didn't have good parts. I just hope the sequel amplifies the good parts as a lot of the bad parts are just trends of modern gaming that I fucking hate, but game developers can't get enough of (wall shimmying, way too many QTEs, music with the complexity of an amoeba, trying to be high fantasy to the point of making up some lame ass civilization no one cares about and seldom if ever referring to historical events at all). Rather than feeling truly unique, the game feels like bits of other games haphazardly sewn together, which wouldn't be too bad except that none of the elements are very engaging or well designed on their own.

The good parts were fucking amazing, though. I loved the atmosphere of Veros Woods, pretty much all of the Castle, the music box, the scarecrow puzzle, and a lot of the undead-type enemies were jaw dropping... MercurySteam does have a lot of potential. I think they just need some more focus, and I'll grant that this game was not a bad first try. With some refinement, less focus on cinematography/graphics (except, I might say, focus way more on the Gothic horror aspect and throwing the LotR shit to the wolves) and more on polishing the gameplay (read: abolish QTEs except maybe the matching circle ones), the sequel could shine much more. I'd love for these guys to make an XBLA Castlevania ala BC: Rearmed.

What about a Rebirth 2 for 25th Anniversary? That'd be good for me. Or the release of some Wii Virtual Console Castlevanias--Bloodlines, XX, and/or LoD would be much appreciated.
