No and no and no and no.
Keep the saga in the "niche" and it will ever be niche; not every saga could celebrate a quarter-of-century and Konami is going to celebrate it with a downloadable game? What a lack of self-caring, Resident Evil is making 5 BIG GAMES even sonic has like 3, and none of them celebrates 25 years, it must be BIG

Sonic has 3. The only recent thing I'm hearing on the Sonic front is Sonic Generations(and the new trailer that features new Sonic and retro Sonic running together). Are you counting Sonic Colors and Sonic 4?

Though, I do agree, it would have to be big. No Virtual Console releases would suffice. I'd prefer a new game. Hell, a new game in the old continuity!!

The best thing that could happen to the series is get a new BIG game like Shadow Complex(maybe for a Metroidvania) or something like Donkey Kong Country Returns for a Castlevania "V", with fantastic visuals and all, that's would be awesome and is the best direction that Konami could take, now that people like 2D games again.

But I don't see that happening, if they were making something like that it would have to be already announced ???

fixed... XD

You jerk. I almost wrote that, too.

Well, can't really blame Cox for that as they're in SotN.

I severely doubt Konami will do a thing for any 25th anniversary unless it's Metal Gear Solid or Soccer Soccer Dance Fun or whatever else they have that makes them buckets of money. They like spending money about as much as a racist caricature of a Jew.

If they made a 25th aniversery game, they could do something really spectacular and give us the 1999 game.

Except that absolutely nothing they do in the 1999 game could live up to our expecations.  I mean, even if we got a game that spanned the world, had no reused backgrounds, starred everuy living ally AND every henchman of dracula, had callbacks to every game, had na awesome engine with just the right fusion of weapons, subweapons, and spells, and was difficult, and had awesome music... we'd still find it disappointing because our minds have built up an even greater game.

It's dumb to expect the 1999 game like a big game, most people doesn't know anything about that, and most people who know/likes the series aren't interested in it, it's a game only for hardcore fans. Don't expect to see Konami making a big game only for a small fanbase. I think the only way we gonna see this game is with a small budget and being in a portable console.

I think the only way to have a big 2D style game is having something like DKCR or shadow complex for CV V or something like symphony, those game are well know, people will look foward to it if they put a number in the title

I just wanna say that Donkey Kong Country Returns is a damn awesome game, and I'd love a Castlevania game to be in that vein.  You know, revamped.

I too would love a Castlevania game where the goal is to rescue bananas from evil tiki masks.  And the more barrel blasting, the better!

Just as long as Castlevania doesn't end up looking too cartoony in the polygons. I guess Drac X Chronicles was a good starting experiment, though.

...I think CV-V would be possible considering what was done with Rebirth. I mean, Rebirth was, in many ways, a low-budget, slapdash game, but it had the core that captured Classicvania (dare I say, CV itself) better than anything I've played in years. If there was any kind of budget, with the right mindset, I think a new 2D Classicvania could be amazing. But yeah, 25th Anniversary won't go anywhere big with what's going on at Konami. ...The long-lasting Contra's big anniversary was Contra 4--but that was an awesome game, despite the small scale.

Keep the saga in the "niche" and it will ever be niche

Yes, but if not being niche means losing the Castlevania feel, I don't know if there's a point. Castlevania's in a tricky spot. It put a lot of its gambling chips on LoS, and now it has even more identities to balance. Ultimately, I think Castlevania has to boldly be what it is (Gothic-Hollywood monster slaying with the whip, man vs. Dracula, without high-fantasy pretenses and without Shakespeare) if it wants to get noticed again in a big way. It may be too late. Instead of consolidating, LoS tried redefining, which just made it look like a slapdash of a handful of other titles by and large, IMO. Castlevania won't break through until it asserts itself.

Screw that, I want a Castlevania where you don't get a real ending unless you collect enough watering cans.

Well, knowing Konami, they'll either not do a nice 2D Castlevania until about 15 years after everyone begs for it (ie how fucking long it took to get Rondo outside Japan), or they'll do it pretty soon, but royally fuck it up somehow. (For example, outsourcing it to Titus, that French company that exclusively makes dogshit quality games.)
