So it looks like we might be getting the long-awaited 2D "high-definition" Castlevania, after all. Although, "just make the GBA sprites really small on the screen" isn't exactly the technique we were hoping for.

ha

umm, Joystiq says their source is a trusted source.  oh, and they say it has a "verses fighter survival mode".  nothing about a one player mode..

Hmm, it doesn't so much seem like random background ripoffs.  It's more like they're taking several stages from a game, condensing them and re-arranging them, and putting them together to form a single map.  The map shown seems to be an amalgamation of Dawn of Sorrow's Dark Chapel as the leftmost building, its Cursed Clock Tower as the center building, and the Condemned Tower as the rightmost building.  I don't think that's so bad.  I'm looking forward to seeing how they put together other stages in other games.

heh, i suppose that's all obvious, but it took me a while before i realized it wasn't all just random and from different games and stuff.

I'm not an Iga fan, but I know even he wouldn't stoop this low. I'm pretty sure he has nothing to do with this game. He's busy working on that next pachi-slot game or whatever right now.

The more I think about it the more I think this is real.  It's likely from a European team, and IGA has little to nothing to do with it.

I don't think you can expect a full new original HD Castlevania as a download.  Not when the standard for downloadable games is $10 and a DS game costs $30.  Just doesn't make sense from a budget perspective.

as long as Jonathan has the Vampire Killer whip, I'll be playing as him.  though using the VK might be sending him to an early grave..

judging from the artwork, Alucard will have a one handed sword (i presume it'll be the Alucard sword) and Soma will have a two handed sword, probably with an overhead swing.  I'm not exactly certain what Shanoa is creating in the art.  Looks like maybe an Ignis, but there's some kind of curved weapon that seems to be being formed, a sickle?  Any of Charlottes books will seem lame in comparison, so I hope she has some decent spells at her command to make up for it.

i wonder if the music will change when you enter one section of the map to the next, reusing that stage's music.  or maybe it'll all be one music per map?  or it'll be based on whoever you are playing as?  kinda doubt they'll be any new music, but you never know.  a remake of some old tunes might be nice.

i wonder if there would be six different color variations for each player?  i hope playing 6 players doesn't force you to have two people of the same character.

i also wonder if enemies will respawn and when they do.  does each playable character spawn in a different part of the map?  if not, it'd be annoying to see them all climbing over each other trying to get to "the goal".  if you just stay a step behind one guy whose doing all the work, can you avoid all the enemies?  also wonder what's in those chests, just stuff like Health Up, Defense Up, Speed Up?  Or do you get "stuff" that you can keep in an inventory for a while?

Well it is XBLA/possibly PSN after all. It's going to look rather cheap.

Shadow Complex would like a word with you.

Multiplayer, DS visuals, the worst characters from the Castlevania series, and time travel? Sigh...Iga strikes again. Oh, please let this be fake.

Quote from: JC Fletcher of Joystiq
A trusted source has told Joystiq that "Harmony of Despair," the title of a recent European trademark, is indeed a Castlevania game. Our source indicates that the game will be a 2D multiplayer Xbox Live Arcade title, featuring six-player co-op and a versus, fighter-style survival mode.

So there were three possible games (a Japanese one, Mercury Steams' LoS, and a known European one) and IGA is behind the European game.  :-\ I know people do love to bash him for his 'incompetence' but geez. Let's actually see his name on this BS of a title first--or heck, let's find out if it's even real before we're ready to punch some people at Konami in the face for even letting this happen.  If this is actually real (I refuse to believe it is until it's presented at E3 or Konami actually claims this pile of crap), and this was the type of crap Lords of Shadow went up against, no WONDER why it won...

I don't think its a matter of if it is real or fake.  It's more of a matter if they are actually going to go ahead and finish this game and release it, or even intend to at this point.  Also, who knows, maybe it won't be released outside of Europe?  Would that make us feel better, or is just knowing its out there somewhere too awful to contemplate?

Man, I still can not believe they could do something so bad. I look at this topic, and wonder who had this idea. I think this staff is not open to hear opinions of fans, or just hear the folks over in Japan and only make that kind of stuff. They might as well make a game such as said, the year 1999 to know how Dracula was finally destroyed. Or a remake of Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse, using obvious that the new sprites Alucard (SotN), Trevor's (CoD - I think he's better than its predecessor, the former seems like a barbarian, or clothing caveman, I know there). Or a sequel to the Harmony of Dissonance, or any other game, a Classicvania, you know ...

And in that style that they are intending to make the game, in my view there are still some characters that I think I know there would be needed:

Hector (the forger of demons)
Juste Belmont (A prodigy among the Belmonts, and who uses magical powers)
Joachim Armster (telepath)
Cornell (The only werewolf to face the vampires)
Hugh Baldwin (I think he's cool)
Leon Belmont (I like your visual)
Kirschine Maxim (I think pretty cool)
A hero becomes a hero not because he wants to, but by what he does.
