Why is it that the sega castlevania games seem so appealing and then you play them and they make your brain bleed a little mostly from frustration but partly because it is that much of a let down.

I did own a saturn which never got a castlevania since this region never got nocturn and I didn't own a genesis when it was still that generation of console so I never got to play bloodlines in it's day. I did get to play dracula X and scv4 etc and I did get to play sotn all during the time they were the newest in the series. I still haven't gotten to play the dracula x remake or whatever on the psp despite owning one. I just can't justify buying a copy. Though it can't be as awful as the sega castlevanias.

So years later I get emulators and start playing all the stuff I always wanted to and never got to. I almost wish I had never done that. No I do wish I hadn't actually. Now that I have I can't unsee and unhear the awful experiences I had. It's painful really. I had hoped for some new stuff to see and do and then the carpet was yanked from beneath me so to speak.

With the exception of sony no other company has had a castlevania game worth mentioning on their hardware. I'm not even going to consider that new game part of castlevania because it pisses me off kind of like the ps2 games but worse.

Bloodlines was awesome, except for the horrid John sprites. BUT OTHER THAN THAT!

And DXC is worth every penny.

How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

Nah I have to say bloodlines was crap but more because the sega was crap. The sound is awful and the control is pretty bad too. It could have been a lot better on different hardware. But the story is pretty bad too.

I might eventually pick up a copy of the psp game it's like 10 or 15 bucks I think on amazon.

But really my point is that konami just never gets it right outside of the sony and nintendo games. I don't know what the deal is but I think they just have a poor attitude towards the less popular hardware. You can see it by the lack of effort that went into the sega lineup the most though. Bloodlines was bad and there was very little effort put into porting sotn on the saturn so little so that the result was never fully localized. Furthermore the dreamcast game got canceled so you can see the downward spiral they went on with sega. They seem to be doing a lot better with the sony hardware but the current trend hasn't helped. We went from sotn to the awful PS2 games and now an even worse game which also made it to xbox360. The only thing saving the series are the DS games they released in between. Castlevania has become almost entirely portable these days since consoles have not gotten a title worthy of the name in ages. Even the 64 games were a bit of a miss. I think the best way to bring the series back under control is to go back to the tried and trusted 2d metroidvania style with modern features and graphics. Look what sotn did for the series and the resulting 6 portables that spawned from it. I would say that is highly successful in comparison to the console games that have been released since.

Ok, there is few things that I want to clear:

With the exception of sony no other company has had a castlevania game worth mentioning on their hardware. I'm not even going to consider that new game part of castlevania because it pisses me off kind of like the ps2 games but worse.
So, according to your statement, Castlevania 1, 2, 3, Super Castlevania 4 (that considered by many people as one of the best games in the series, next to SOTN), Rondo of Blood, Castlevania Adventure 2, Circle of the Moon, Aria of Sorrow, Order of Ecclesia are all not worth mentioning.
Did I understood it right or there is some miscommunication problem?
Because if I understood what you have written, as it is, it basically means that according to yuor words, most of the series is crap and even games that appreciate by practically every single fan, is shit an there is only SOTN and nothing else?

While I personally not big fan of Genesis, and there is some things that I dislike about that console I must say that Bloodlines was one of the best classicvanias in the series. In terms of graphics it was very good. There were ceratin limitations, but Konami managed to work around them and make the game good looking. Also the game was rich in special effects, even more so than great SCV4.
Gameplay was interesting. The idea take action from the castle was awesome and it's sad that it wasn't used very often in the series.
The only thing that was not so good about this game, was music, but in the end it wasn't very bad. And some compositions actually sounded very nice, even taking Genesis specific sound hardware in account. Certainly not horribly jarring or annoying.

@Corpsecrank, cranker of corpses
I really liked Bloodlines, while the graphics weren't technically brilliant, they really played with their setting and created a bunch of memorable moments. I think it was a lot better at utilizing all those graphical effects than Super Castlevania IV. I loved the music too.

How do you feel about Bloodlines compared to SNES Dracula X? You mentioned that you got to play it, but I thought it was one of the worst Castlevanias.

The Sega Genesis is great too. I remember playing Sonic 2 for the first time...

This is a great question above^^^

If what your saying is indeed true and you think that all the other hardware besides Sony has crappy Castlevania games than I would really just have to disregard any of your statements regarding Castlevania in the future because it would seem that the only CV game you actually like is Symphony.

Nothing wrong with that since I to love Symphony of the Night, but, saying that the rest of the series is crap seems pretty absurd to me as a longtime CV fan.

What the fuck dude? Bloodlines had some of the best tunes in the series! Reincarnated Soul, Sinking old sanctuary, Iron Blue Intention and Calling from Heaven!!!  The graphics were just fine and some would argue this is one the best games in the series.  And furthermore, the Genesis did not suck it many great games. I'll admit that I did prefer the SNES between the two, but the Genesis still had many great games.  If you younger gamers can't appreciate the classics then go play Call of Fucking Duty or something mindless like that.

Genesis had the classic Sonic games. Any other point is therefore invalid.
