I'd usually agree with that statement there, but personally (and unfortunately) I think I agree with most of the complaints made about this game..

Thread title updated, sorry it took a while.

Anyone else having trouble watching the new 7min video? After buffering for 5 mins, I get like 3 seconds of video. Any other links available? Thanks.

The arrows signify the way back to the world map.  Is it that bad?

I like the dark, dusty rooms with withered furniture in combination with those screaming banshee/ghost-thingies. Though their screams are f'annoying.

I have the same issues here that I did with PoR.  That is, the game mechanics aren't very well integrated into the level design.  For example, when Shanoa walked into the Magnes Glyph room, I knew instantly that those awkward out-of-place bars were meant to be used as such.  Instead of having something that's integrated into the background serve the same function (statues, crumbling walls/columns, etc).

Also, not once since SotN has the platforming made sense.  Since when do monasteries contain large vertical shafts with absolutely no stairs and floors jutting out of the walls?  I know, it happened in SotN, however, not nearly as much.  The backgrounds in SotN had stairs that indicated the area could be used by people that aren't able to fly ten feet into the air.  The problem I have with PoR and now OoE is that the areas are built around the main character, with little concern as to how normal people would, in theory, interact with these areas.  Yes, it's a monastery, but it can't be used as such since the rooms are separated by long vertical shafts.  How would a priest, for example, be able to get to the top floor?

Anyway, that's just my opinion.  Please feel free to disagree.

Those shafts' only purpose is, to get rid of traitors. They are thrown down there. If they don't simply die of the impact, they get killed by ghosts in the dusty, withered rooms. The real monks live ONLY on the top floors. They have entire gardens on the roofs of the monastery, where they grow crops and stuff. The rooms below are only to get rid of waste, they also are the sewers of the monastery.

LOLZ Explaining the BS (EBS for short).  It's fun stuff.

But in all seriousness, i'm with Sonic Reaper on this one.  Aesthetics seem to have been thrown out the window since SotN.  With CotM they started going crazy, but with AoS and DoS and PoR they just did not even bother.

Yes, there's a "Great Stairway" but what's its purpose?  And why is it broken in half such that only a basketball player wearing a rocketpack could conceivably make the jump?  The SotN Stairway really 'was' a "Great Stairway", and is probably the only one that's made any real sense.

I know, I know "Creature of Chaos" and "Dracula's Magic" Deux Ex Machina applies here, but in DoS it wasn't really his Castle, but rather Celia's, and the horizontality of HoD's is the oddest thing ever (though with that one I give it the benefit of the doubt given the chaotic nature of the game).

The layouts haven't gotten much better since SotN.  A Tower in SotN could span multiple stages and still retain its 'tower' shape.  Look at the 2nd tower of the Royal Chapel.  If you follow  it down on the map, it turns into the tower that holds both Olrox's Room as well as the main rooms of the Colloseum when it's further down.  This kind of placement makes the entire feel more cohesive.  It's not just random rooms thrown together with no real sense as to their purpose.

I'd say that AoS did the best job, all things considered (although why a Study would have so many broken staircases and huge openings is beyond me).

Btw; someone asked about the flying horse heads. They are not really new, if you remember CV4's first stage's staples.

hope IGA has been reading alot of the fan praise many still give to CV4 (since he claims that the femal lead character is based on fan requests, maybe he is adoptiung some of the CV4 feel as well). would be nice.
