Simon's Quest is basically the closest game to combine elements of Classicvania and Metroidvania. I'd like the effort.

Curse of Darkness was probably meant to be Simon's Quest in 3D. In some ways it is, in other ways it really isn't. The idea was great, I'll give em that...

I think the easy answer to why Brauner is there is because Cox wanted him there. Cornell too. Though, you could always speculate that they are a different "Brauner" and "Cornell". It's like, I know this guy named John. Go back a hundred years and I can bet there was another guy named John living during that time. Go back a few more centuries and there were probably other Johns that lived back then. While the reason Brauner and Cornell's name were chosen by Cox was a nod to the mainline series, they could possibly be different characters named those names. I mean, "Brauner" IS a surname, and there's probably a family with that surname that goes back for a while.

As for dimensions, the possiblities are infinite, but to the point that eventually, you'll go past multiple dimensions that are nearly identicle with a few differences to dimensions that no way resemble each other, with great differences in landscape, history and such. If the gap's THAT big, I don't mind it. It's like the Golden Compass books, which take place in an alternate universe where the world is more steampunk, with magic and such. Countries have grown differently, and this likely results in a difference in dimensional counterparts. If something was drastic in one dimension, the ramifications could result in a whole slew of people not being born because such events(perhaps, let's say a war that was never supposed to happen, or an invasion of a country) would result in many people from not meeting, wedding, and baring children the way it had to be to create a parallel generation to our own. Maybe, it would cause my father to go fight in the war. My mom would never meet him and fall in love with someone else, give birth to a new set of children, while my father would either die in the war, or return home, fall in love with someone else and start a family with them. That would result in no dimensional counterpart to myself(and my siblings) would exist, and likely, no dimensional counterparts to others, as well. But you could even go back further, making it so common ancestors don't meet, and entire family histories cease to exist. Maybe that's what happens in this one. This a a theory:

Maybe the Brauner of the original canon doesn't exist in LoS's canon because the Brauner in LoS is the ancestor. Due to specific events(perhaps everything revolving around the Lords of Shadow and the darkness engulfing the land, he became a vampire(where as in the classic canon, these events never happened, and he never became a vampire, meaning he had children as a human man and his family lasted for generations up until PoR's Brauner in early 20th century).

It's just a kooky theory, though. Just shooting ideas out.

Multiple universes doesn't necessarily mean parallel universes.

Maybe St. Germain/Aeon/Time Reaper/Galamoth caused a dimensional shift that allows for multiple realities to exist  :o

Multiple universes doesn't necessarily mean parallel universes.
That's true. Besides, in the end, it all depends on the creator. A world and universe is only as different as the creator deems it to be.

That might be because of the type of game it is...

It's sort of like how Ace Combat always got an 8 because it was geared for a specific type of player.

Despite the fact that this forum is so big, you all are the only other people I know that actually play CV titles.  All of my friends are sport game sickos.  They'll WATCH someone play a game or series like this, but won'y pick it up for themselves, which is foolish.  Unforunately, sometimes the wrong people put together reviews.  Maybe they lack historical reference or appreciation.

Most of the greatest games take an 8 or a 9.

it all comes down to opinion, the "wrong" people that put together reviews are "wrong" because you think so, because for example you like the game, while you might agree with the other reviewer because he has the same opinion as yours, for example some people look at video games as a way to just pass some time not the ultimate form of pleasure and story-telling, and these people as I have seen are more attracted to sport games and classic Mario types.
for example the same thing happened to Tenchu Z reviews at IGN, they said that game is flawed and the AI is stupid and all and gave it a low score like a 6 or something, now I ignored the reviews and actually got the game, and to me the graphics were cool, and the "flaws" that he was talking about was the exact appeal of the game. because everyone can define a video-game flaw in a particular way, for example is Mario flawed for not being realistic enough in terms of sewers? sounds like a stupid questions? well apparently some reviewers have this view.
and for the record, I hate IGN reviews. I see way too much hypocrisy.
My culture taught me that women are flowers to be protected and pure creatures, we are to be gentlemen and serve them. but you know what? they're *ssholes just like everybody else!

Pretty much. IGN ripped horribly on God Hand, and a Gamestop employee recommended I not buy Earth Defense Force because of negative reviews. I got both of 'em anyway and loved the hell out of them. Similar stuff happened with Legacy of Darkness and God knows what else.

Occasionally reviews are spot on. I ignored Game Informer's scathing review of Mega Man X7 because they hate on pretty much all Mega Man games for being too samey anyway, but booooy did I regret that. What an atrocious game. I guess the moral is that you can only really trust yourself.

I can't believe this game is literally just around the corner, not long ago we knew next to nothing about this game aside from the E309/Gamescom trailer, a couple interviews and a few screenshot's here and there.

Now in just a few day's we're gonna be bombarded with media, the review embargo's will be lifted, the demo goes online for PSN and Xbox live, the new gameplay trailer and the stratagy guide hit shelves. This is gonna be a fun week. :)

Hopefully they'll confirm a release date for the EU Collector's Edition, too.

100% agreed: I end up forgoing reviews and just giving the game a shot if it interest me. The only bad thing is that some gamers tend to be 'sheep' and if this game (Which hasn't been promoted that well, seriously, no T.V. bump Konami?) gets pretty negative scores, people may pass it up instead of thinking and trying from themselves.

I mean, I really want the EU edition. I have the NA limited edition locked down already, but the EU version is very cool looking as well

It seems it's available on the Italian Gamestop site for 99 euros..

& then I hear the Japs get a few exclusive stuff in THEIR version. UGH!

wtf is going on??
