lol, are you serious? They can put plenty of games on that timeline, it's over a thousand years. Of course there'll be plotholes here and there, but what epic story doesn't? Maybe this new game & it's rebooted timeline should only have a 100 or so years to play with so your life will be easier.

Then again maybe they'll come out and say that LoS actually takes place in the 12th or 13th century.

Furthermore, I feel that the entire series should be mapped out INTERNALLY before they go hog-wild with a new storyline (maybe making room for around twenty games or so), assuming that it IS a new storyline. That way, things wouldn't be a complete mess. Also, think of just how many WWII games there are, even within a single series. You can deviate from the main path to show WHAT ELSE was going on at the same time as in another game. I'll never understand people's hatred of side stories. I find such things to be interesting if they're executed properly.

I never said that they couldn't, but it's obvious from the example listed above that it's subject to some pretty jarring inaccuracies.

The existing timeline laregly revolves around the resurrection and destruction of Dracula, most often at the hands of a Belmont, and with a few kidnappings here and brainwashings there.  A World War II game (with crass 2000-era dialogue) showed how low the series got, how hard it was becoming to mine material from it.  IGA did what he could, let

"Really, it's far too difficult to put additional storylines into the overall storyline, which is why Soma exists."

Thats it, in a nutshell.

Yeah, to me, it did look more interesting. From what information they released, it looked to be a true SotN sequel which people were pretty happy to see. Now it seems the consensus around here has shifted (as usual)& everyone is pretending they weren't interested themselves.

But whatever. Gabriel FTW, right?

What information was that? Oh, that's right...none. Everything that was "known" about the game was based solely on fan speculation. I do like the fact that the Castlevania fan base speculates a lot upon even the smallest drip of information, though. It keeps things interesting.

Sorry but I do recall a while ago IGA mentioning in an interview on doing a SotN sequel on next gen platforms (maybe someone can corroborate this?). Don't ask me for links or anything, it's pretty old now. So a little info was released here and there. Not like I said there was a press release or something like that.

I wasn't sure if this was directed at my WWII comment ...

Sorry kevinski, I hadn't actually read your post before I posted (!).  Mine was a throwaway reference to Portrait of Ruin.  In IGA's defence, I suppose he was working to progress the story of the series (if not so much its structure), and take it in new directions.  Aria of Sorrow did have a unique feel and twist to it too.

I think a new person coming in would ask for a blank canvas: it's what I would have tried to do.  Otherwise you're reading up on the existing material and trying not to make mistakes, trying to keep it all in line: it's a nightmare.  It can restrict.  If, for example, you had in mind a new type of monster or overall dark lord, for example, how would that fit with Dracula in the timeline?  You'd have to go out of your way to contrive scenarios or side-stories to balance and alleviate inconsistencies.

You can reboot without wiping the whole slate blank. Just look at the new Star Trek movie.

I was searching for it, and all I came up with were various forum posts that linked to this page, which I can't find such a reference on. I'm not denying your claim, but I'm very surprised that we still have yet to see or hear anything about the new Alucard game.

I don't feel that they should necessarily scrap the entire storyline, as I've said before. They should rework it and only include certain key games. Iga obviously rearranged things to his liking, so why can't somebody else? Think of the newer Batman movies. Sure, they use the characters and whatnot, but they're not always used within the same context as their original versions.

I think the same.

I don't want to ignore Simon, Trevor, Julius, Leon or Christopher, for example. Not really even Mathias/Drac, thought I would rework him into someone who doesn't lose to anyone who happens to waltz into his castle.
