I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that this is a remake of Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge.
Go. Set Forth! Both your own life and hers are at stake.

I think it's equally safe to say that it's not. While it would make sense that there's a Plant Castle or summin' somewhere in that screenshot, nothing else says Belmont's Revenge about this game. We'll never see Belmont's Revenge again, trust me.

We will, if CV JApan keep doing games a la old-school they will remake it, there are too much requests, even from especialized sites (IGN, Gamespot, 1up...)

I understand that newcomers would be entirely confused by the concept of breaking candles to get items, when most modern games have shops and farmed-corpses, but the candles were always a key platforming feature that helped break up the "walk forward, slash-enemy, walk forward" formula.

Not to mention that they add a sense of mystery and adventure to any given room cause you never know what you'll find in a given candle, and several in the past have been a challenge to even reach and break open. It's like a constant stream of mini treasure chests just waiting to be unlocked.
Thinking better, I would like to see candles, with sub weapons (But that's impossible because if you look at Gabriel's artwork, he has all the subweapons in his armor) or gems or money or whatever, less MEAT and HEARTS.
But I doubt it, the candles, if you remember, are a japanese symbol of the souls, and this game is killing all japo things.
And wait a moment, where did you read that this game won't have exploration? If it was because that spanish interview, the one who said that was the reporter; the man from Mercurysteam didn't. They haven't said anything about gameplay, they said that they will do an action game, and remember IGA's words
Quote
At this moment, I only want that the gamers think about Castlevania as pure action
AS you can see, those were the plans; even if the Alucardvania comes out, it will be an Action game, don't think about a RPG. And because it's action, it doesn't mean there won't be exploration if you see well the screenshots, we can se open worlds, a door with the combat cross carved on, an open castle; I'm pretty sure that the game won't be only killing bad guys.

And about Belmonts and Dracula, yeah, I'm afraid, so afraid, I really like them, but I just hope that in future games they will re invent Belmont's story and Dracula will make an appereance (I still think that Dracula wil appear at the end of this game). And yes, there will be looooots of sequels of this game, I mean, they registered "Combat Cross (tm)"...

I hope you're right, but I just think there are many Castlevania games that will be remade before someone would even think of touching some old gameboy games (that weren't even that popular to begin with). Such as;

1. Dracula's Curse
2. Super CV4
3. Castlevania (Original)
4. Simon's Quest
5. Bloodlines
6. Symphony of the Night(Not sure about this one, but I still believe a remade SOTN will happen before the GB games)
7. The N64 games (yes, even them)

1. Dracula's Curse
A remake would be nice. Its definitely one that needs a remake. It has never received a remake before.
Quote
2. Super CV4
It was already a remake, and pretty much perfect. I can't think of anything that would need to be added. Its also been rereleased on virtual console.
Quote
3. Castlevania (Original)
This has already had several remakes including Super CV4, Haunted Castle, and Castlevania Chronicles. I don't see them remaking it again. A simple graphic update would make it too similar to Castlevania Chroncles, IMO. Althoug, I suppose it would be nice to see the Igor/Frankenstein battle with improved graphics.
Quote
4. Simon's Quest
Ya, I could see it getting a remake treatment. It also should be enriched, with new bosses, maybe new areas. Of all the problems with the game previously, the biggest was probably the fact that it only had like three bosses... Ya I know it was trying to be like Metroid, but in that respect it was a bit too similar.
Quote
5. Bloodlines
A game I've been hoping would show up on virtual console. Its pretty much perfect. I don't see why it really need a remake.
Quote
6. Symphony of the Night(Not sure about this one, but I still believe a remade SOTN will happen before the GB games)

Well it did get an updated and modified release in Dracula X Chronicles, which included new voice overs, playable Maria, and the extra familiar or two. The one thing it was missing that I wish they would have added was the NitM extra areas and items. But I can't complain too much (though personally I liked the original voice overs better).

I really don't think they will do anymore to it, it was already pretty much perfect, has high color graphics. I don't think there is much they could do with it besides expanding it. Turning it 3-d would be blasphemy.

7. The N64 games
Yes, they were so far my favorite of the 3-d games as far as level design and exploration. Graphically they are a bit dated. I suppose an enhancement, better skins and increased polygons would be nice. However, I'd also want them to include both the levels from Castlevania 64 and Legacy of Darkness. People who have played both know what I'm talking about. The level design, puzzles and traps were much different for several levels in Castlevania 64 compared to the Legacy of Darkness versions. Specifically the Forest of Silence, and the four towers and clock tower had alternate level designs. If they were to make an enhanced version, I'd like to see both.

Was that part of the original article, or was that your personal commentary?

If the former, is that a "past tense" I notice? As in IGA isn't with Konami anymore?

It could mean that or it could just mean while he was working on his CVs at the time, Lords of Shadow was already well under way as a stand alone title.

Removing hearts from Castlevania is like removing mushrooms from Mario. It and candles have been a staple since the first game. They should stay, as they are a series identifier.

The hearts are almost stupid. I mean, hearts? I can understand jewels (CV 64 LOD) but hearts? do you imagine find a heart in a candle? that's absurd.
It's good to keep the good part of the sagas, but it's the right time to fotget all sikky and weak things on it.
And certainly, if you keep thinking in that way, yuo will be very dissapointed with the agem, and even more, knowng that it will be a hit and easily will erase the old saga (if it's not into it). I try to be open minded and enjoy the moment, so, if LOS comes to erase everything, I hope it's good enough to do it.

Hearts being silly or absurd doesn't mean that it is 'a weak part of the saga'.  ::)
