Don't forget the indoor areas... that castle for example, looks pretty damn dark to me. And this looks rather dark;

yea i remember seeing only bits and pieces of the Castle and it looks freaken FANTASTIC complete with the gothic dark atmosphere of love in my CV games ;D
what i was refering to is the fact that the MAJORITY of the footage for Lord's of Shadow take place OUTSIDE the castle and away from the Dark settings.
it just seems that for some reason Cox doesn't wana give us MORE of the ingame castle footage and instead chooses to show us alot of brightly lit areas.
and and the pic you posted does look kinda "dark" but it still not nighttime or anything in the pic.
looks to be just really foggy and cloudy

i think you are just being picky if that isn't dark enough for you.

That screenshot looks incredibly dark to me, I am very pleased with it. The visuals and art direction for this game are beautiful.

If its not dark enough you could just turn down the brightness on your tv. But I think it looks plenty dark, and I welcome the brighter looking areas as well
What a horrible night to have a curse!

@DarkPrinceAlucard

I see your point, and yeah.. there has been some awfully bright areas. But at the same time Castlevania was never Silent Hill. I'm pretty sure we'll see the night sky in this game, don't worry, but Castlevania was always a mix between light and darkness. It's hard to tell from the games that take place inside the castle only, but even in the castleroids you can see that it's not pitch black outside. In some of the games, you could even argue that it's taking place during daytime, and that goes for the original Castlevania too (Stage 3, anyone?).

The forest pic I posted is pretty much exactly what I would imagine the Mad Forest from Castlevania 3 would look like in 3D - not pitch black, but kinda dark and unsettling.., but it's a matter of opinion.

If anything, Simon's Quest was great in theory with the day/night cycle. It may not have been implemented in the best possible way, but with hardware restrictions in mind, I think it did a really good job in terms of atmosphere. Nighttime wouldn't be as scary if there never was daylight.  :D

And Daylight, while really really bright in Simon's Quest, still seemed a bit unsettling.  Some of these areas remind me of Simon's Quest's brightly-lit sky background and mountains.

Actually other parts make me think of what the Crystal, Cloud, Rock, and Plant Castle from Belmonts' Revenge would look like, in 3D, what with all of those locales being in a seemingly bright daytime scene.

*sigh*
its not a matter of being picky its a matter of whats been shown thus far.
i'm merely stating the obvious.
the (MAJORITY) of the LOS footage is brightly lit.
if you don't agree then please prove me wrong but please don't just call me picky with nothing to back it up

I agree with above post, almost everything I see in this game is bright and not much of a scary look(which kinda doesn't matter but inspiration comes from scv4). There can be a balance of bright and dark in the game which I also don't mind but its starting to look like lord of the rings.

She actually looks like a SquareEnix reject, especially when she's sitting on the shoulder of her armored pet. But I'm not dissing anything else about this game, I love what I see.
Her riding on the Black Knight remnds me of this:

As for it being too bright, I agree. I know someone mentioned the intro(Werewolf battles in the rain), but I don't think that was night. It was just a very DARK storm, which oddly starts to break during the horse riding portion(which is right after the Warg boss), and it's OBVIOUSLY day time during that part(you can see the sun rays shining through the forest).
I DO like the gameplay movie where Gabriel's platforming and battling through the area, then reaches the giant. The giant reminds me TOTALLY of Balore(him peeking through the windows reminds me of AoS's Balore, his general look reminds me of DoS Balore). That whole area(the pillar corridors, particularly) remind me of the bridge corridors in the PoR's Master's Keep, DoS's Demon Guest House and Dark Chapel, and HoD's Sky Walkway.

I remember months ago we saw a sneak peak of Slogra being rendered, are Slogra and Gaibon still in this game or were they cut out? And I'm still waiting on confirmation if Necromancer is the new Death. :P

it sorta seems to me that they have been cut out :-\
which sucks really.
i mean.....
if they were in the game i see now reason why Dave Cox would hide it from the fans especially since he is trying to prove that his is indeed a CV game and what better way then to show Classic enemies

Just because every boss hasn't shown up in the trailer doesn't mean they've been cut out  ::)

That being said, being the long time fan that I have to say that this is the first trailer that seemed significantly non-Castlevania, though, it's really more non-Kojima Castlevania than non-Castlevania in general. It doesn't have that elegant black gothic feel to it, but if the last Castlevania game had been Rondo of Blood, much more so Super Castlevania IV, I could definitely see how you could jump to this point.

None of that's a bad thing, though. The trailer was excellent, and I'm really more excited for the game than I was at first, and that's saying something. If Jason Isaacs is Dracula, he has to be the guy in the hood with the mask. There are lines from the extended Gamescom trailer in the new trailer that match up with the voice of the masked man.

I'm also very interested about the shot of Gabriel with the Devil Mask shards on his face. FORESHADOWING.

Also, I'm calling it now, Claudia is going to become evil.

It honestly doesn't seem all that SCVIV to me with its environments. The locales of SCVIV built on themes of this tight claustrophobia, while everything in LoS is very airy. SCVIV was also substantially darker and muddier.
And Rondo is bright and poppy with very saturated colors in its palette so LoS isn't similar to it at all.
