Ya, those QTE's really ticked me off, at least it doesn't rely on them too heavily.

Alright, I'm at the Ice Titan. I fucking hate this game. Could they have made this battle more boring? Every time it shakes you off it takes forever to get back to where you were. If they were so inspired by Shadow of the Colossus, couldn't they have taken the time to figure out why that game was fun? As it stands, I really, really wish I hadn't bought this game (let alone the collectors edition). If it wasn't a Castlevania game, I wouldn't have gotten it. And even though its battle system is obviously ripped out of God of War (which I hate), and the game poorly tries to mimic Shadow of the Colossus, I know I'll still suffer my way through it. But this game is not fun. At all. On top of that, it doesn't even look like a Castlevania game, the soundtrack is already getting on my nerves, and it just tries to mimic popular games and does it poorly. And why are the fairies nude? It doesn't make the game look more adult, its just looks stupid. The fact that the game is 20 hours long makes me dread finishing it.

tl;dr, I revoke everything I ever said in support of this game and I am joining the haters camp.
The dream reveals the reality, which conception lags behind. That is the horror of life - the terror of art.

QTE's aren't that annoying imo just get the timing down (Its between the rings). As far as the "Castlevania feel" (i've only completed up to chapter 2) yes its there put very subtle and in spurts and the influence is mainly from 2 and Super 4.

Harrycombs, I agree the ice titan was kinda lame and the music is meh but the next chapter is better.

I just finished the Ice Titan battle. It took quite awhile, but was kinda cool. Definately annoying having to take all the time to get back to each rune, and he always seemed to swat you off just before you were about to finish the 10 required hits. But oh well, another minor annoyance.

So far, I'm loving this game.

Harrycombs, I agree with you on your feelings.  I don't hate the game, but man do I feel let down.

David Cox was quoted as saying something along these lines. "if castlevania fans do not get goosebumps when playing this, then we have failed".

Well David, if that is the case, then you have failed in my book.

Not at making a great game, but at delivering to a long time castlevania fan, that old nostalgia feeling.  When I am reminded more of LOTRs in the 1st chapter and the first half of the 2nd,(currently on 2-2) then a castlevania game, then I feel you have failed.  Also, what was with the Deku tree in 2-1?  Zelda anyone.  I don't care how similar it feels to GOW or other games, I just wanted that Castlevania feel to it.  Also, some say it borrows from CV2 and IV.  Which parts?

So far all I notice are the whip-swinging, but a good Tomb raider game or an Indiana game can deliver that as well.

I like the music, so it isn't the music that is throwing that CV feeling aside, it is simply the environments.  Well, here is to hoping my opinion changes as I progress through the game, b/c frankly I share the sentiments of comb on the thought of sticking with this for another 20 hours.

Another thing.  I was never too good at knowing which moves to upgrade to, and games like GOW kind of give you all the experience you need to upgrade all your weapons by game's end.  For those who may have finished this game already, can there be a game-breaking character build? (I know that is rpg talk and this isn't an rpg, just using that to refer to the weapons upgrade and moves upgrades.)

What could have been changed to make it feel more like a Castlevania game?  I am not talking about SOTN games and those type of metroidvania games, but what element(s) is missing which makes this game differ so much in spirit from the old CV games which inspired David Cox?

I don't get it. I don't agree that if you want classic touches you have to play the "older games." I haven't played this game yet--I'll get it eventually, maybe even sooner rather than later--but I don't understand why it couldn't have been a "reboot" with more familiar elements right alongside all of the new stuff. I think they could have made the fans feel much more welcome right out of the gate while not alienating newcomers whatsoever.

Then don't play this. You knew what this game was going to be like. There is a lot of over critical comments here. Ever since the DS games all I see fans do is hate. First it's too much of the same, now it's too different. Goldilocks meets Castlevania. It's really tough being part of a fanbase that craps all over itself. I'm loving the game and I'm leaving you, my dear freinds to your negativity and outrageous expectations. I am not trying to be rude or start something, but it seems unless you want to bash the game or point out every tiny flaw there is no point commenting. I would like to discuss the positives of the game which we all know outweigh the flaws greatly but I don't see that happening. Hell, I've seen some people here (like Jedi) on Gamefaqs making the same complaints. Oh well. Peace everyone.

Hmmmm.  Your reply disturbs me greatly.  Here is why.  Like you said, it would seem that unless one had nothing but praise for this game then one should not talk about it.  Why not? (btw, yes I am the same from GFs and choosing to use the same name was not laziness or a mistake.  I am not trying to hide anything.)  I am a fan who is disappointed.  I am not being rude either or "crapping" all over this game as you seem to indicate me and others are doing.  Flaws?  No, I don't see any in the game yet, but what I do see or don't see for a better way of putting it, is what makes this game feel like it is a castlevania game.  Why don't you share some of your ideas about how this game "is" a castlevania game to you rather then giving up and walking out?

BTW, I have given up on GFs.  I came here because it seemed like the members could say they were disappointed w/o getting staked by people (like you) who don't agree, which is totally cool with me.

Let it disturb you then. I did share some thoughts and it falls of deaf ears because it wasn't negative. There is no giving up- I just tire of the negativity. So say what you want. I'm not going to tell you otherwise. I just feel there is no pleasing this fanbase. It's your show now young jedi. Have fun.

BTW- How am I stalking you when I only know of you from seeing you on GF? Please, don't flatter yourself thinking I have any interest in you like that.

That's what I am not feeling.
I was expecting a scary symphonic castlevania but this is more lotr so far from where I am at.

It's the 21st century folks. Out with the old. It's also a CV on a new-gen console. Finally. The series shouldn't be about retracing it's own footsteps. It's time to move into new territory. Sure there can be references to older games...places, characters, etc. But LoS has mainly been about a new, fresh start ever since it was announced.

That said, I do agree with the LotR feel in the early levels, as well as on the soundtrack. But again, it's still early. There are plenty of screens & vids we've seen in later levels that definately feel CV. As for the similarities to CV2 and CV4 (and in some ways CV3), those influences are pretty obvious if you ask me, especially in regard to the game's layout. You have to travel all over this massive countryside in many locations before even reaching the castle, and then the castle itself is massive. Sure it's not a carbon copy of those games but there are definate signs of them being an inspiration.
