nuff said: aside the game being a complete homage to Castlevania, this really stands out in the game itself and some of the sprites used seem like kiddied versions of the SOTN sprites

An obscure Castlevania reference in Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes, a hack and slash game published by CAPCOM which was released only in Japan.

There is one particular battle that take place in a castle with Nobunaga Oda as the boss.

Note that Nobunaga's name is changed to "Devil King" in the US version of the original Sengoku Basara, his JPN version VA is Norio Wakamoto which is also the VA of Dracula in the JPN version SotN.

What I particularly like about this reference is, if you have the text set to normal (that is, not everything is capitalized), this whole message is in all caps. Makes it more authentic and exciting, heh.

Edit:

Here's something pretty interesting:

Logo from the Dungeons & Dragons campaign, Ravenloft. I wonder if they had Castlevania in mind when they designed the logo and some of the artwork.

Actually go check on the front of Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, I think Konami stole the artwork from Ravenloft.

My favourite references are from Press Start Adventures, a parody of classic games. The hero uses this boomerang cross, there's a succubus, a count vile, etc.

The most obvious ones are: #06 Symphony of the Trite, and #08 Up to Code.
#12 F-Xerox has Robert Belgrade's voice in it.

im not too sure if this was mentioned yet, at one time the konami code (up up down down etc) worked on facebook, i do not know if it still does, inputting this code in lords of shadow during a loading screen enables cheats, turn on a cheat to see an NES simon belmont on your HUD, he will mimic all the moves Gabe does in game

There was an "Alucard" before Castlevania III though.
Back in "Little Monsters", the movie, I believe.

Yeah but Tokyo Majin was a 2007 series, well after SOTN. And although Alucard was originally from the 1943 movie Son Of Dracula (also the first movie with vampire-bat transformation onscreen). Then in 1968 there was a British movie called Dracula Has Risen From The Grave about Dracula targeting an exorcist's niece -- named Maria. In 1973 there was a Marvel Comic called "Dracula Lives" and in it Dracula had a wife -- Maria.

In the anime, Kekaishi, there is a castle called Kodoboro in another dimension.  The master of the castle is slowly weakening and as she weakens, the castle crumbles more and more.  The castle seems to be connected to its master just like how the castle in the CV series is connected to Dracula and will have completely crumbled once its master dead.
