So, neither "classicvania" and "metroidvania" are not your style, I presume?

You want a more medieval CV based on folk-tales? Isn't that what LoS was? Either that, or you want "Brothers Grimm: The Game"(maybe not solely based on the movie, but you get my drift).

Me, personally, I just want a more return to classic horror form. I could care less if they abandon the medieval period. Actually, I think the whole dwelling on medieval-setting hinders the horror elements. It becomes more about being medieval horror than horror horror. I want my classic horror movie inspirations, maybe a darker take on them, as well as some modern horror movie inspirations(like Leatherface in OoE) and nods. As far as setting is concerned, I've been aching for something set post-medieval(just so we don't have that setting around to put a crimp in the overall feel of the game), maybe Baroque, Enlightenment or Victorian eras.

With all respect, I'm OK with that.
Either they draw them again, or recycle them, it's OK to me. As long as there's new levels and music in in the style of the GBA and DS CV games, it's OK. That's the game I want.
They still can experiment with gameplay and some other stuff, like they did with OoE, which turned out to be nearly perfect in my opinion.
Now I'm tired, eternally walking... forever dying, and never stopping. I feel in sorrow, all I see is white. I’m following a blind way beneath a sad sky.

The guy says he doesn't care one way or another if the sprites are all-new or re-used.
I don't understand what's not to understand.

I disagree in that the sprites should be new and not recycled, but I respect his argument.  It's a rather nonchalant outlook.  More power to him.

No. I like both. But there are always something that I dislike in almost all Caslevanias. I would prefer it to look more like this painting: http://vr.theatre.ntu.edu.tw/hlee/course/th9_207/painter-wt/bruegel/bruegel-02x.jpg

I want Castlevania: The Gothic Fairytale. For me it always was a Gothic fairytale (with several exceptions). LoS may be a great game, but it is a fantasy game. IMO there is no place for fantasy in Castlevania.

I have no problem with recycled sprites, if the have new designs and new enemies. There enemies that you can't disregard, so you'll have to recycle them, by giving them new designs and moves. I'm thinking it like this, each time the castle appears, so does the enemies, but with new designs and powers, since all that time that they were missing, they were training and gaining new powers for their return to take revenge on the people who they have sealed them back to the demon realm.

I definitely agree, except with the medusa heads. I was thrilled with ReBirth simply because there were actually new medusa head sprites for a change.

Agreed, except I'm actually okay with recycled ones too.

I don't understand, why after all that had happened with the series somebody can have such position. For me its equal to wishing to bury the series in the pile of crappy copy-pasta games. 10 years wasn't enough to understand that it's not an evolution or anything good?

Yet, it was there from the begining.

Don't you think it's a bit contradicting?
You want new designes, but recycled sprites. Now, you can only have one or the other. Recycling automatically puts new desings out of question (if we not talking about simple recolor or little tweaking and I hope it doesn't constitute for you as "new design").
The fact that some of the enemies are considered iconic doesn't mean, that they always should have the same look. Classic games managed to change their appearance almost in every game and nobody objected for it.

I finally played Shantae: Risky's Revenge based on Jorge's high opinion of it, and I must say, I agree that it is the strongest proof that WayForward is capable of making a fresh 2D Castlevania.  WF has had it's share of lame games and missteps, but they HAVE done right by most of the outside IPs they've picked up.  BloodRayne and Aliens are both spot-on with the source matetial, and with Contra 4, they even managed to fix some inconsistencies created by the franchise's original localization.  Again, if IGA won't reunite with Kojima and Yamane for future Metroidvanias, I would love to see WF pick up the torch.  It seems like a strong possibility anyway.

And even if Double Dragon Neon isn't perfect (and probably should have remained in hand-drawn 2D), it's hard to deny that Jake Kaufman's soundtrack and Genzoman's artwork aren't pure awesome sauce.  Kaufman could definitely adapt Yamane's tracks properly, and even if Genzoman is vastly different in style than Kojima, his designs are edgy enough to fit the CV aesthetic.

Furthermore, while I enjoy the Japanese-developed CVs the most thus far, I can see why KONAMI would allow Western studios to try their hand at Castlevania and Contra, since both series sell exponentially more units in America than anywhere else.  They always have, since the very beginning, so objectively speaking, it's a pretty sound business decision.  That doesn't mean I always have to agree with the results, of course.

When you are recycling enemies, it doesn't mean that they should have the same look or set of moves, to give you an example, here is the  Axe Armor through time, in different Castlevania games.

So, it's the same enemy recycled, with new designs and moves.
