I really don't know why I'm the one that "sounds full of hate" when I'm only receiving insults from our fellow companions. For example: I use the word BAD but I don't speak about the people that like that games or even titles of games. And, you know, Judgament have bad graphics, bad concept art, bad difficulty curve and bad controls. I thought almost everyone was agree on that.

And of course I am a fan. I am a fan of the original Cv, a fan of CV III, of CV IV, of Bloodlines, Rondo and LoS. I love all that games. Are not enough for you? I'm only a "real fan" if I like more than the 50% of the titles? C'mon...
Nop, you have a point, but if this is the LoS threadm and if you like it, why do you need to bitch about IGA? this is not the place, there are a lot of (hot) topics for bitching that bitch (sorry, I hate him too :P )

I never insulted you Cris so please don't take offense ???  I'm just defending the fact that CV is a great series from the beginning until now. You addressed me with an argument that "Castlevania almost died with absurd sequels & graphics," I rebutted that ludicrous statement & now you're playing the victim card. Not every game was like Judgment, but even that game has its fans that still play it so why does that bother you so much?

I never said anything about what a "real fan" is. I said you could be a bandwagon fanboy, but that doesn't mean you're fake or don't deserve to like CV or anything.

This place cracks me up sometimes with all the arguing. ;D That said, I agree with Ahasverus. IGA complaining belongs in an IGA compaint thread....not in a LoS thread.

the infamous Judgament was an immense failure. Portrait of ruin and Dawn of Sorrow made under expectations.

I'm pretty sure both Portrait and especially Dawn sold better than Aria for example (which didn't sell that well, but Konami probably made money from it, thanks to the series usual minuscule budget.). Just because a game doesn't sell millions of copies doesn't mean they don't meet the expectations of the developer. If you look at it that way the series was never on a downhill slope for more than one game every once in a while. I have no idea what Konami expect of this franchise, but I strongly believe Castlevania is profitable enough for Konami, given how many games we've seen for the past ten years. But like any other company Konami sees the potential and really wants it to be a front runner in its genre, hence the recent change in direction. Konami is probably comfortable with how things are, but they clearly wish to see it do even better, especially since games like GoW and DMC are doing so damn great. But was Castlevania ever a commercial failure? I don't think so.

That's what I hope for the most with LoS and the future MS 'vanias. The series is full of the potential to be one of the mainstream franchises. No game since SotN even came close to achieving that. I may not be the biggest fan of LoS, but the reception the game has received seemed to breathe more life into the series.

I think it's time Castlevania ends it's reign as a "well-known" franchise and actually steps up to the forefront of the action/platformer genre.

I think it's time Castlevania ends it's reign as a "well-known" franchise and actually steps up to the forefront of the action/platformer genre.

I sometimes fear that the actual name "Castlevania" is part the problem here. People have heard of it, some have played it at some point and maybe didn't like it. Whenever they see a new game on the shelf they remember that one game they didn't like/couldn't beat, and then decide not to give it a second chance. It's like; "Castlevania: Lords of Shadow? Naaah, I played that Castlevania on the DS. What was its name? Ah yes, Symphony of the Ecclesian Dissonance! I hated it. I probably won't like this either."

This is, of course, terrible. Castlevania plays radically different depending on what console/handheld you have, but I doubt casual gamers know this. I can totally understand why some haters would claim that Castlevania has no personality of its own. Or split-personliaties, even.

Anyway, back to the name; The name Castlevania may sound too obscure to some. I wonder where this franchise would be today if it had been called just "Vampire Killer" or "Demon Castle Dracula". I'm afraid casual gamers - who don't know what they're looking at - could easily dismiss a game that has a name they can't relate to, even if they probably would like it if they tried. Meanwhile, they could easily pick up an extremely unforgiving game like Devil May Cry 3 without knowing what they're getting themselves into. Just because it has a snappy name.

I think an entirely new ClassicVania on the 3DS would be the best thing they could do

CV has always thrived on handhelds because they support miniscule budget projects; we'll need to see what happens with the 3DS because it's a much more powerful form of machine, and it does NOT support that kind of low budget.

In fact, the 3DS is terrible news for IGA. No, seriously. 3D is extremely hard and expensive to pulloff when you're using 3D assets. You CANNOT reuse old material in the same way you do with GBx/DS games.

In short, a 3DS game would need a budget. A significant one. Make a non-3D game on the DS and you send the saga to die. Making a 2D game with 3D visual effects will require entirely new assets. Making a 2.5D game is expensive. Making a real 3D game is more.

Don't be so sure that the 3DS is good news for us. Yes, LoS is great and all but I appreciate it much more when I know I'll still get "classic" 2D sidescrolling 'vanias on my handhelds. With the 3DS on the horizon, this availability isn't to be taken for granted. 2D 'vanias will have to change, and IGA will need a budget. One thing we know for sure is that we won't be getting nearly as many games. The 3DS isn't as cheap to develop for as the DS.

Knowing IGA he probably makes it a 2d with a 3d gimmick that you only have to use a total of once.

Castlevania: 3rD Sorrow?

Don't even joke about that :o :o :o He might actually do it to spite us.

What if a third Sorrow would be the 1999 game?  :P

Just had a theory. What if, in the next game, just like how Gabriel decided to call himself "Belmont," the next hero also adopts the same surname after he heard legends of a Belmont hero saving the world in 1047? That way we won't have a Legends-esque plot of the heroes being descended from Dracula 'n stuff.

That's the general theory I had in mind for awhile for the next game. Watch the new guy's name end up being Simon or Trevor.
