I love this trend of developers talking shit about QTEs, saying their games won't have them and then... they're there anyway. It happened with Splatterhouse too.

Oh well. Bayonetta had some too, and that was one of the finest games I've ever played, so...

Also see: Resident Evil 4.  The Krauser knife fight will never be forgotten . . .

Got a quote from BeerTiger over on rllmuk, on the demo:

"I hate God of War but I love Castlevania. I was a little unsure of this, before playing the demo.

While the combat feels boring the atmosphere is incredible. The voice acting is some of the best I've heard in a game, thanks considerably to the cast they brought in. The real show stealer though is the music. Absolutely wonderful stuff, complementing the visuals perfectly. Oh man those visuals.

I want a Castlevania movie. The cutscenes in this are framed and edited together masterfully. The part where you jump the canyon on the horse is like something out of a great movie but you got to that point! Speaking of getting to that point I like if you fail the horse section it's not a death screen. You just beat some dudes up and then continue on your way.

Overall it's very slickly presented and I think that's what will make me pick it up. I love the effortless transitions from gameplay to cutscene, the narration by Patrick Stewart, the old world environments. As a small bonus the main character isn't a massive dick like Kratos.

Special Edition for me I think."

Music is complementing, and we've got some atmosphere . . . exactly as I'd thought and hoped!

I actually like quicktime events. It mixes up the combat well and kind of keeps you on your toes. Its not just hitting the same two buttons all the time , that gets too repetitive. I think the God of War series pulled it off very well, especially GoW3.I guess ill just have to wait til next week to see how well in works in CV
What a horrible night to have a curse!

Looks like the Jason Isaac trailer will be coming out the same day as the demo, on the 28th.

Mm, it seems to be praising presentation and all, but then there's that minor quip of the combat being boring. Seems kinda off that the only complaint is the the only one based on gameplay. The rest of it praises the cutscenes and music. Guess it was that lackluster horse segment that swayed his opinion, eh.

This wait is torture, man. I thought I would be over waiting for big games like this years ago but apparently I'm not. I haven't looked forward to a game like this in awhile.

UUUUUGH WE HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER WEEK.

This Jason Isaacs trailer sounds like the only marketing push Konami has planned.  And really that makes no sense.  Here Konami is finally giving Castlevania the funding and talent it needs --with a stated objective of drawing "new fans" in...  And here we are about 2 weeks from release STILL waiting for the demo --still NO commercials on television --NO effort whatsoever to reach these "new fans" is even on the radar.  Sure the gaming press can carry some water, but even good reviews get lost in all the other gaming industry noise.  Konami is obviously counting on US to help sell this game by "word of mouth".

But review embargo lifts next tuesday, so.. I think that's what marketing is all about; having the embargo lifte so early is a sign of confidence, and now we know the game is getting great scores, so ,it will be a "Red Dead Redemption" or "ARkham asylum" effect (In the best of the cases); remember those games? both had almost 0 marketing through their development, prevviews were "meh", but they had earl reviews and of course they were "da bomb". Thanks to great review scores and word of mouth AA sold 5m in one month, RDR 2m in one week.
Gamers are a really weird population, unless a score teel them the game is awesome, they would act "meh" to sound cool and not too excited  -just in case the game is not a 90+ - so they can keep a "good taste" reputation, I still remember the whole "But i's just a GTA with horses!" with RDR, and after day one of reviews, everyone ws saying "GTAIV is shit this is da bomb!" etc  :P

Everything comes full circle

Someone should definitely try to rip the music from the demo in the mean time.

There's no doubt the combat looks "iffy".  Arenas, what looks to be 20+ hits to fell some enemies (perhaps an exag.), 20-odd-minute titan kills, that grab move /circle, QTE, it's not entirely sitting well.

But I've played enough of your Lament of Innocence, Devil May Cry, God of War and Bayonetta to know it'd take something special—something extra-special—in the gameplay department to not be boring.  I'm hopeful (again!) that some enemies and bosses will bring nothing if a bit of a nostalgic feel to the combat, and that the backdrops and music make it all worthwile.

Also, don't forget the strategy guide will be released on the 28th or 29th, so unless you want the whole game completely spoiled, don't read it  :D

Yeah advertisement for this game sucks so far. I doubt anyone that isn't familiar with CV will notice it on store shelves anyway.

"hmm 'Castlevania'.. Kingdom Hearts looks way more fun Ima buy that instead"
