Well, I sure as hell didn't understand the new meaning behind the Belmonts hunting down evil/Dracula in this game. Unless he was referring to Gabe's quest to save Marie, then that's pretty stupid.

Makes no sense in the game as it is; could make a lot of sense in the perspective of Belmonts chasing Gabriel, tho.

In short, LoS extabilishes a "blood" tie between Dracula and the Belmonts. How does this pan out, we don't know. 3 theories:

1) Gabe has a son between being resurrected as an angelic being and becoming a vampire. This would explain the "power" of the bloodline (as they would descent from someone infused with holy power) and also why they are tasked to chase Dracula specifically (clear up the family name/destined/cursed to do it)

2) someone unrelated to Gabriel takes up the Belmont name to fight Dracula. He may do so because he's an orphan and does know the legend of Dracula's origins and sees it as fine irony ("Good, now this is personal, and I'm gonna pick up your name so that when I meet you we can have a laugh") or because this guy goes through something that bonds him and his bloodline to Dracula ("so you have forged the whip with meteoric iron and your blood, and your family will be able to hold its power. How should I call you?" "Mmmh.... Belmont. Call me Belmont. The sucker will understand."). And so on.

3) there IS a Belmont family in the world. It doesn't have to necessarily be a family of monster hunters. Actually, it shouldn't. Butch Belmont and his wife Cybill are a couple of dairy farmers leading a peaceful life in the country. One day Dracula's goons storm the farmstead, killing them both, kidnapping their teenage daughter to be Drac's next wife and leaving 8 years old Christopher for dead.
But he's not.
So he grows up and becomes a monster hunter for obvious reasons, and there you have it, the Belmont family. I wouldn't see it as "redicolous coincidence". If played well, it could be ironic destiny. It could play well into LoS' "christian" themes. Gabe would certainly see it as God's own toying with him.

My two cents are in this one. But I would prefer "secret" sons from Marie.

Alucard Belmont.

You do realise this might actually happen, don't you?

This doesn't mean the next Belmont must to be Gabriel's natural son. Why not an adopted child from Wygol who saw him like a hero, got orphan and gabriel raised it, then gabriel becomes Drac and his "son" swears he will wipe the evil side and return gabriel to the light, becoming a vampire hunter with the surname of his "father", belmont, used to honor the memory of the man once he loved and as a reminder to "Dracul" to who he was  ;) Very dramatic IMO

Who says anything about Gabriel having a son?  There is no evidence of one with Marie and nothing in the movie after the credits to imply it either.  I mean that final cut scene takes place in the present or near future and Zobek implies that Gabriel (now Dracula) has been hiding out that secret room in that church for centuries.  From what Zobek says in that cut scene, I predict that the sequel to this game will be Gabriel and Zobek fighting Satan's followers to try and prevent his return.  If that's the case, I'm all for it.

Remember, In the iga timeline mathias, who becomes dracula, is married, but once he actually becomes dracula he meets lisa and has alucard. So, if by some chance they bring in alucard, gabriel could easily meet someone after the events of los, so its possible gabriel could have a child, maybe with the name of adrian, and maybe he gives up the name belmont, so it wouldn't be "alucard belmont" cause that just sounds silly
What a horrible night to have a curse!

It seems everyone has a different idea for how the next games story might go. ;D I guess it really can go several different ways. My biggest fear is that it'll be like "Hey guys, guess what. Gabriel had a child this whole time...we just never mentioned him".

Alucard Belmont will pretty much make me pass on the game immediately.

If Cox did decide to turn Alucard into a Belmont he'd probably save that kind of a revelation for another twist ending, after all he wouldn't want to scare off the 2/10 who wouldn't agree before they've bought the game :-\

Personally I've always liked how that despite being immensely powerful the Belmonts have always been human, making them a family of Dhampir's or even Vampires would reduce much of Castlevanias appeal for me.

Yes! The Belmonts need to stay human. The storytelling in LoS was so bad that I don't think MS can handle making Alucard Belmont sound even remotely plausible. It'd probably be a long Patrick Stewart narrated paragraph explaining it.

Alucard is awesome. But I would rather keep him a seperate person from the Belmonts.

David Cox at Gamescon 2010
“We wanted to answer the question about the Belmont’s: Why do the Belmont’s hunt the creatures of the night? Why? This is a question that we answer in Castlevania LOS”

David Cox from Exclusive: Castlevania LOS Dev insights: Part 1
“And it was important that we had a Belmont as the main character, for me growing up with Castlevania. The original Castlevania premise was you know - Belmont’s with the chain whip battling supernatural creatures”

I was already thinking he was going with the Belmonts being descended from Gabriel. These quotes seem to further push towards that theory; especially the first one. It has the potential for some interesting story-lines and characterization so I'm interested in seeing how MS would handle it. As for them possibly being dhampires do we even know if that's possible in this universe? There's nothing saying Gabriel can't have a family before he turns into a vampire.

I'm also thinking it's quite a stretch that Gabriel is going to drop a surname he created (for it's personal significance) and adopt the name of the family that abandoned him.

or just Adrian Belmont

I actually like the sound of this.

I've been thinking and I'm not sure if Gabriel/Dracula is actually a vampire in that last scene.  He may just be a really powerful demon.  I mean all Gabriel/ Dracula said was that he could neither live, nor die.  Not all beings that are stuck between life and death are vampires.  If he is truly a vampire and wanted to die, why didn't he just walk out in sun light?  This is why I think that he may just be some sort of undead demon, but not a vampire.

Except that he goes to bite Zobek on the neck, and you can clearly see his fangs  ;)
