I agree with that, but some times the new attempt, might have the same effect with Stagnation, if it doesn't meet the standars of the product!!!
We talk about quality of the product or how fans perceive it?
Because it is very different things and not very connected to each other and more often then not the latter doesn't play deciding factor nowadays.

I'm talking about quality. Sometimes, companies in their effort to revitalise a game, they tend to change up to 80-90% of the game. What i'm trying to say is that when the new game, doesn't have anything in common with it's ancestor, except the title name, can't be called improvement. Example Alundra with Alundra 2. Nothing in common, except from the name.

You want to revitalise a game? Then improve graphics, music and game play, but don't overdo it, resulting the final product to be something different and unrecognized, from what the game was known.

From what I've heard about the game from different people (reviewers, general gamers) its quality was always praised, even by people who doesn't think its Castlevania enough.

What kind of ancestors we talking about here? The classic ones or IGA-bred ones? Because LOS certainly doesn't have much in common with the latter (fortunately), but tends to resemble the former at times.

SOTN says HI.

And by the way, improving the game only on surface will lead to the cloning and withering of the series. Sometimes it is neccesary to make drastic steps to revitalize the series and after mulitiple SOTN-clones, I believe it was just the appropriate time to do that with Castrlevania.

Lets put it this way:

Can you blame them for trying something new?
Laura and Gabriel arrive in the deepest cave of the castle and... they find IGA.

From what I've heard about the game from different people (reviewers, general gamers) its quality was always praised, even by people who doesn't think its Castlevania enough.

Yes i agree with that, but it sacrificed the rest of the elements, that they have define the series for!!!

What kind of ancestors we talking about here? The classic ones or IGA-bred ones? Because LOS certainly doesn't have much in common with the latter (fortunately), but tends to resemble the former at times.

Even if LoS it is resemble the former at times, the Castlevania series from the beginning, they have made a thing clear. The Belmont's family against the powers of darkness. In LoS, we see that the family who's supposed to destroy evil, that it turned to be the one who has brought it, by turning the first Belmon't into Dracula.......

SOTN says HI.

SOTN was the continuation of RoB and while it changed the game play style, still it was having its unique style from other games of that time, most of the classic enemies redone with new sprites, new and old music from who the series where known for and Richter with Maria, they were also there. It would have been silly having Alucard using a whip, so they gave him an arsenal of weaponry and its unique game play style, but still it was having the classic hero, Richter Belmont to play with a whip. Final conclusion? It only changed the game play for Alucard. It didn't change anything else from the series!!!

On the other hand, LoS did the opposite........
And by the way, improving the game only on surface will lead to the cloning and withering of the series. Sometimes it is neccesary to make drastic steps to revitalize the series and after mulitiple SOTN-clones, I believe it was just the appropriate time to do that with Castrlevania.

I agree that most of the rest games, that they came after SOTN, they where not the best, but like i said on my previous post, by changing the whole game and keeping only the name or names, it doesn't make it what its name says.....sorry, but i can only see LoS, like Alundra 2, with the difference, that they have kept most of the classic names and 1 or 2? Classic music themes. They could have really went with the idea of remaking the first Castlevania, using the same graphics engine, ending making a awesome 3D Castlevania game, but instead of that, they chose to scrap it and create something from scratch, that it wasn't bad as an idea, but the excecution of that idea, it turn to be a game, without personality. It's borrowing game play styles from every other action game, instead of defining its own game play style, generic opera music, enemies and stages designs, that no matter how much you look at them, they don't get stucked with what the series where known for and finaly a general scenario that you meet in almost every action drama movies!!!

 I'll just drop that here!!!

That's an intentional simplification. They didn't just try something new. They made a different game, slapped Castlevania on it and made a few nods.

I still don't get why you can't like both Lords as well as recent games, without bashing the latter in praise of the former or vice versa. The whole NO NO MY TEAM IS THE BEST YOURS BLOWS shtick is old and childish. We're talking about video games.

No, is not childish. You can't take a general title, put some names on it and call it the next step to the series, when it doesn't have more than 5%? to do with what Castlevania series were known for.

On top are the goblins from LoS and below are the goblins from lord of the rings games and movies!!!

I agree that the goblins were the most generic enemy type in the game. Me personally the best enemy type in the game (and by far the most annoying enemy due to cheapness) would be the creeping coffins.

It's a poorly-marketed but competent God of War cash-in, definitely, but there's no point in screeching that liking it makes you a fraud of a fan. It's as dumb as saying that the handheld games were simply rip-offs and its characters were bred in Koji gardens and that those aren't real Castlevanias (or that only CotM is the real one.)

When I was younger and dumb I was filled with ideas like having a certain console made you somehow superior to others, or that liking/hating a certain video game made you a poser or a hater, etc. Nowadays, I look back and realize I was a hoser. I used to adore CotM and hate HoD, then I hated CotM and loved HoD, now I appreciate them on for what they are and recognize their vivid shortcomings. Lords gets some things very wrong, but it also wanted to do something different. I judge it on its own merits, like is it fun to play? And yes, it's pretty fun. I think it was wrong to forsake so many traditional staples of the series, but liking it doesn't make you a fraud of a fan or that it's not really a part of the series.

Also being vocal and constantly bashing previous games as dumb, clones, effeminate, RUINED THE REAL SERIES etc showcases a brainless and annoying passion reserved for those who have yet to complete junior high.

Guys, it's been two years. Get over it.

Just to make things funnier.. how would YOU make a Castlevania game in 3D? And how would it differ to LoS? (If you cite aesthetic reasons, I'll murder you, all of you)

Guys, it's been two years. Get over it.

There is nothing left to discuss as far as Castlevania is concerned with the lack of news and all. Ripping apart Lords of Shadow is the only thing keeping this forum active until Konami offically announces Lords of Shadow 2.

Then we can rip on that one.

Edit: As for how I would make a 3D Castlevania game, Demons Soul with platforming.
