Cursed Prison

The Cursed Prison is almost a completely pointless area. It links the upper halls of the Underground Waterwall with the lower halls of the Marble Gallery. It's only comprised of two rooms - a short corridor inhabited with ghosts, gargoyles and will o' wisps, and a large dungeon filled with spear knights. Early in the game, the gargoyles and ghosts will give you plenty of experience, so it's a good place to hang out to build a few quick levels, but other than that, you won't find too much interesting here.

The inverted area is at least a little more interesting. You'll fight zombies who split into two creatures, unless you destroy their torsos first. There are also ghost creatures called Wights, who wield large flame swords and seem to have very long recovery times after being hit, so they take a long time to kill (and also have a rather cool death - they fall down, but their spirit stays up...which soon collapses.) There's also the Wraith, who will use its large claws to squeeze the life out of you - although it really doesn't do too much damage.

Underground Garden

The entrance to the underground garden is found right where you flew through the castle door. The main area consists of one very large cave, inhabited by white flying fish known as Water Reapers, by a pond, a very weird grinning tree and skeleton gardeners who command an undead dog. There's also a transporter and a save point here. In the upper right corner, there's another corridor that leads into a greenhouse, where you'll fight psychotic gardeners and man-eating venus flytraps. At the end, you'll face a new sub-boss, a rather creepy skeleton knight.

In the reverse version of this level, you'll face the fire demon Ifrit, jumping creatures known as Kappa Knights, Chucacabras (known as Cave Trolls in the American version) and invisible flying skulls called Chon-Chons that make flying through this area very difficult. In the greenhouse, you'll just face an assortment of Flying Swords, Venus Weeds and knights. At the end of the hallway is one of the exclusive weapons to the Saturn version, the Alucard Spear. Both of these areas are extraordinarily annoying, as there are so many enemies and so much slowdown, trudging through is an exercise in frustration.
