What sales figures?
The only figures Konami is concerned about.
LoS probably sold around 300k to gamers worldwide so far; probably a bit more. Japan is missing, and if KojiPro plays it well, that could add some 150-200k over a couple months.
At this point, Konami is happy because they shipped 1 million units (at this point they can't care less if they sell 1 copy or 1 million in terms of earnings; the game was certainly profitable to them). The way this works, Konami is selling the game to retailers and not to gamers in the first place. LoS shipped a lot because distributors saw a 3D game with good graphics and all and thought "this will sell" and stocked 50 copies, while probably when they see the umpteen 2D game they go "ok, 5 copies will last me one year".
It was the first goal Konami had. Now, sales for LoS have certainly been "lackluster" if you compare it to God of War or Metal Gear, but nobody could expect that. If Japan brings the sales to customers to 500k, and over the next year the game crawls to 800-900k worldwide, the distributors will have faith in the sequel too.
