How can we be sure that the actual game will look like this? Aren't screenshots pre-realease usually not as good, or at least different than, the actual game?the beta shots for sotn looked identical to the final release, except the lifebar had small differences (like, 4 digits on life counter even when your life was below that etc), and monsters were placed differently.
Wtf?! Why is every games' protagonist a woman now a days?fanservice
The room with the worm boss looks absolutely horrifying...

maybe it's something on a spiritual level rather than genetics :o

Theres nothing wrong with Women protagonists. I only don't want them, if its just a woman to draw attention or something. Which ..... lara croft does.... ALOT.... >.>

Maybe they should move to the PSP. The enemies in DXC looked pretty good, and the enhanced version of Rondo was excellent.
Okay seriously the recycled sprites are getting old. It's not even funny anymore. That merman is over a decade, A DECADE, old. And let's not even get into the realm of recycled sprites that are actually edits of OTHER sprites that are MORE THAN A DECADE OLD (RoB, what, 15 year old sprites?!??). Graphically, the Castlevania series has been SUCH a huge let-down. Honestly, to whoever said, "Why do you guys complain so much? Do you even like this seris anymore?", I'm seriously starting to consider it.
Wtf?! Why is every games' protagonist a woman now a days?
Isn't there a ship in the background of the pic wit the water?
It begins.

This boss is actually pretty original looking.
You know what? Iga fucking sucks. The Castlevania story line is so fucked up now because of him. Now anybody can kill Dracula, using any type of weapon they want. I wouldn't be surprised if the next game's main protagonist is a black guy, who acts exactly like Samuel L. Jackson, and kills Dracula with a fucking butter knife. Or worse yet, Iga will have him have to fight and defeat Richter in order to be able to use the Vampire Killer.
The article on IGN said over 20 areas? Jeez, that's SOTN territory if you include both castles
In the interview, they keep talking about the trailer that was shown at the event.
thank god they returned to the old regal design. portrait's was awful and stupid.
I like the addition of a female character, as long as she isn't as useless as Charlotte.
Sometimes? SotN, AoS, DoS, CoD, PoR, Order of Ecclesia.and those plus Hod and Bloodlines would've fit fine as side stories. not cotm/64 type "side stories", they'd be still canon, but a side thing that would focus on smaller things, outside of the main plotline.
As much as I find her annoying, I didn't find Charlotte useless. She was great for giving the team stat boosts and her magic was necessary to reach later areas. Well, we'll just say she's no more useless that Jonathan was.
Agreed about the blushing of Jonathan and Charlotte. Though for some reason, it annoyed me slightly less than Yoko and Hammer flirting like Middle Schoolers in Dawn of Sorrow through Soma; they might as well of had them passing notes. .

yep.
in my mind, anything that doesn't focus on the series's main plotline of the main branch of the belmont family's struggle against drac and his lackeys with a true belmont as the central protagonist is a side story.
Main series: LoI, CV3, Adventure, Belmont's Revenge, CV1, CV2, HoD, RoB, 1999(whenever it happens).fixed. if you're gonna remove cv64/lod and cotm, remove the remaining turd too. :P
Side Stories: CoD, SotN, OoE, Stoker's Dracula event, Bloodlines, PoR, AoS, DoS.
fixed. if you're gonna remove cv64/lod and cotm, remove the remaining turd too. :Poh crap, I actually forgot to put the other three games. They were suposed to be in the Side Story line. Whoops!! ;D

From the question the interviewer asked concerning the game's length, IGA's response made is sound like it was of "normal castlevania length.
I really wish the CV games could become longer while still maintaining quality throughout.
Soma
Calm down Thomas. I LOVE the Belmonts, but it's ok to step away from them sometimes, it adds a lot more depth to the series.
And antrax, though Iga is no shakespeare he is not terrible. And this non-Belmont move in no way negates his credit as a writer. Now, the cheesy dialogue in dos and por... that is another story entirely.
There's just way too many different CV blades and weapons to use to toss them all out in favor of some gimmick.
It breaks the flow of the game? Because you know exactly how the system works, i'm sure.
Stop jumping to conclusions.
BTW, that looks nothing like 19th century attire LOL. Or even attire you'd expect a holy order's high priestess to wear.i don't think she's a priestess of any kind though. in the interviews they described her as a weapon created to battle against dracula, with just a codename, not a real name.
Glyph system sounds awesome.
Angle sounds awesome (never played as a member of a Church fighting Dracula before)
Art Style is not 100% generic-animu bullcrap.
Graphics look tight.
Shinoa doesn't look like a re-edit of Charlotte anymore.
I'll buy this game at a heartbeat.
BTW, that looks nothing like 19th century attire LOL. Or even attire you'd expect a holy order's high priestess to wear.
edit+bump:I told you all, she looks straignt out of some Korean MMORPG. I could tell that by the original screen bust from the leaked pictures. But, she doesn't look anime. If anything, she looks more comic-book inspired.

How'd you do that?I got the game from Playasia :)
Well, what they actually where is boring and not sexy in any way.
but I'm still irked by the fact she's supposed to be part of a holy order and wears THAT.which part of the storyline that was recently revealed say it's holy?
Dracula and his armies still thrive, so it's up to mere mortals to face off against the legendary vampire on their own. Thus, the Order of Ecclesia was born.
Made up of the most proficient magic users in the world, the Order of Ecclesia harnesses magical elements in the world known as "glyphs."

Kinda off topic: Want me to make your sig and such MaddiChan?
Why does she have black hair on the art but brown on the sprite?
Any one that knows her name btw?
her name is Shanoa I believe.codename. her real name wasn't revealed yet and probably won't be until the game's released, just like for example they kept wind's real name a secret until you played the game.
In Reply To #194Reminds me of when Final Fantasy XIII was first announced and it was revealed that Lightning was also a female heroine(and like Shanoa, her name is a code name and her REAL name has yet to be revealed). You had kids saying, "Ah man, a GIRL?! Why couldn't we have another guy, like CLOUD or SQUALL?!!!!". Children, they never cease to amaze me.
i'm sure there are some little prepubescent boys who can't handle that idea. :o
The main thing I really focused on in regards to how I wanted this version to play, was the feeling of it taking time and causing tension to grab these new skills away from enemies, sometimes in the heat of battle. Instead of just killing enemies, grabbing their weapons, and using the items right away, I wanted that feeling you get when you're actively pulling away the magic and taking time to absorb the new powers. So that certainly ties into the whole design on my end.
which part of the storyline that was recently revealed say it's holy?
it's just all powerful magic. and the church usually detests magic.
In Reply To #194
i'm sure there are some little prepubescent boys who can't handle that idea. :o
Well, you know what? I'm 28 and I don't want to play as a girl. Guess I'm old fashion.
This game better reveal what happened to the Belmonts and why and how the Morris' received the Vampire Killer.
Reminds me of when Final Fantasy XIII was first announced and it was revealed that Lightning was also a female heroine(and like Shanoa, her name is a code name and her REAL name has yet to be revealed). i find it very nice and better that DoS and Pork!
Shanoa? oh come on, what is this anime name? it sounds way too japanese now.
I mean seriously, men/boys/guys on this forum, would you rather be staring at some other guy for an entire game or a hot girl?
In Reply To #212Same here. And btw; who says women are always bad as a main character? METROID ANYONE!?
Don't care what my fictional character is in this game, as long as I can kick someone's ass.
Yeah that's one of the reasons I'm looking forward to having a female lead for this one.
So true especially how FF 13 isn't the first FF to have a female lead despite some FF "experts" claims and cries about.
I've got some bad news for you. I've read on wikipedia that Tetsuya Nomura (the character designer)was asked to create a female version of Cloud and he described her as "not verey femine". I'm afraid we've got another whiney protagonist. I think that is awesome though
I like the art style a lot, but I hope some of these stolen background sprites are changed...
So IGA is completely ignoring the Baldwins/Schneiders?Which makes sense, since they aren't in the actual timeline.
Why couldn
Which makes sense, since they aren't in the actual timeline.
Why?
In Reply To #234
On a side note, the painting stages were fucking awesome. Can't think of one I didn't enjoy (discluding the lame rehashes at the end of the game)
In Reply To #239
I never said IGA ruined the timeline. I actually think he's doing a pretty good job at tying up the loose ends. I only think that removing games from the timeline is stupid. Your right that CotM is a stand-alone title but the 64 games are not. Because if they where non-canon you could also consider Bloodlines and PoR as non-canon because the Belmonts make no appearance.(not counting the Richter cameo as the whip's memory)If these games don't conflict with canon (like Legends)just leave them alone. You could also say it's a game so who cares? But I'm just obsessed with castlevania so don't mind me. :P
Thank god that wii rumor didn't end up being an actual game. $250 saved.I lulzd.
As far as Bloodlines and PoR goes, both games state that the Morris family are related to the Belmonts. The Belmonts don't *have* to make an appearance because their bloodline already technically is. It may be the weaker portion, but the Morris family is still related to them.If I remember correctly they mentioned in the opening of castlevania 64 that Reinhart also was a Belmont descendant.
I think it doesn't because he (IGA) can easily put them in the story. If he could connect Bloodlines with the other games why couldn't he also do that with CotM? Nothing in that game conflicts with IGA's canon.
They even contradicted each other. Legacy of Darkness even retconned CV64.
Not any new info for the new games, from this interview, but at least IGA has accepted he's failure over the 3D castlevania games.
In Reply To #261
The level design in those games do not kick ass.
This is what he is admitting to.
but at least IGA has accepted he's a failurei knew it. :o
Oh good god. I read through this thread, and the only thought that crosses my mind is: What the hell is wrong with you people?
LEARN HOW TO ACCEPT OTHER PEOPLE'S OPINIONS. IF YOU CANNOT DEAL WITH THAT, THEN LEAVE.
If someone's opinion differs from yours, don't try to fucking force YOUR opinion on someone else. Get it through your thick skulls already. If I like Spaghetti, and you think it sucks, that's it. No questions. I go my way, you go yours.
Long story short, pull your heads out of your assholes.
I prefer CoD to DoS personally.
Isn't it obvious? They were made by people other than him after he came to power, and that's a similarity with all four of the games he retconned.
I'm surprised he didn't just destroy all the games he didn't make. That being said, I'm still not against they guy, but he really had no reason to just trash those four games.
- Finally your leftover weapons could be used towards something and the equipment-set switch button was an epiphany for the series.
- Soundtrack was moody and full of Yamane's signature sound.
- Many interesting level ideas, culminating with the Condemned Tower that you fall back down after climbing.
- Some of the human bosses were lame (barf on their sprites), but there was lotsa good creature ones.
- Beautiful 3D effects and fun little easter eggs like the physics on the snow-covered van. The generic anime here was somehow not as bad as POR's. Soma still looked and acted like Soma.
- The castle design overall was far better than COD and more believable than AOS'... 'Cept maybe those huge chandeliers in the guest house. Though I guess they have a somewhat CV4 feel.
- Finally, the extra tri-character mode you get afterwards is just so freakin fun. Best second-character quest in the series, still, IMHO.
...it wouldn't surprise me since it seems he hates the 3d titles so much if he redid or retconned those too and started over.
you can use your left over weapons in Cod too to make new ones.
I actually liked PoR's anime better, it fit the nonchaulant carefree mood of the game. I'm not saying it was good at all but it fit really well... Most of the characters looked drastically different and the game didn't feel as dark and hopeless as the first one.
That was alright but there was no real incentive to go back through the game it was just the same thing over again with different characters further lowering the easy difficulty.
I actually liked PoR's anime better, it fit the nonchaulant carefree mood of the game. The thing about that is, there was the so-called nonchalant carefree mood yet the game takes place during WWII. It was just completely out of place.
Is it a new interview?
In Reply To #280
Thanks. Not much new info, but I still don't take this as confirmation that Ayami Kojima is in fact the character designer. It doesn't quite look like her style.
But yeah, it's slated for Japan in August.
You know what...I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that there might be a doppleganger soul type system for the glyphs. Under the HP/MP bar in the screen shots there is a letter with a color backing just like DoS.
It seems to me at least 3 configuration options. I don't think this has been discussed on the forum or in any of the interviews. (i don't know about that gamespot video interview....god i wanted to shoot that guy.)
I heard someone mention it might be a new "Kingdom Hearts".
Oh well... Nintendo Power's a stupid magazine anyways.
Sooo.. nothing new, huh? That sucks.
A trailer with some gameplay footage and a little music sample, is that too much to ask for? E3 is too close to the release of this game, they need to give us something much sooner than that IMO.
We all might get hit by a truck tomorrow, so they should get their acts together already.
>:(
The art is AWESOME.
- Game takes place in mid 1800s when Belmont went missing
- All people unsuccessful at combating Dracula until Ecclesia formed
- Shanoa is the main character - first time a female stars
- Shanoa can use Glyphs (have many abilities) - source of Shanoa’s power
- “No real weapons in this game” - Glyphs used for every attack with MP
- Glyphs can change form: Ex - turn into a sword
- Glyphs located in environments, found when enemies dropped them, and other ways
- New layer of strategy due to glyph MP consumption with glyphs
- MP refills quickly when not attacking
- Can create combos
- Glyph Union special attack: Huge sword travels across the screen, constant barrage of knife hits -requires hearts
- Glyphs can be used in other ways: Ex - Produce magnetic field and cling to metal rods
- Barlowe part of Order of Ecclesia - gives tips and teaches you about your abilities at the beginning
- Albus also part of the Ecclesia group - Takes Dominus at the start of the game(the best Glyph weapon against the Dracula)
- Shanoa (loses her memory + power)
- World map utilized
- More than 20 locales in the game, Shanoa travels to find Dominus
- Save statues, teleport rooms return
- Side quests given by rescued villagers - villager data available in menui
- Game looks more mature, somber, painted than other games on the DS
- Michiru Yamane handling sound again
- No returning characters except for Dracula
- Returning from previous versions: Leveling-up, dodging (L/R buttons), select button to switch between map and stats, hard difficulty setting, multiple endings, Wi-Fi support
- Wi-Fi: New item interface: you can have your own shop, vs. competition considers items used and damaged received to determine winner
- Other features NP can’t talk about
Like I said, I wouldn't be surprised if A.K's doing promotional art again.
Shanoa's looking almost Simon-badass.
my guess is, the guy on the right is Albus or whatever his name was, the guy from one of the leaked shots. the old guy is most likely whatshisname, the guy who controls the whole order. the rest obvious since they're chanoix and dracula. :o
edit: seeing some new info that surfaced i'm pretty sure it's him.

The new art is fantastic, but what bothers me is the conflicting qualities in those screenshots... some areas look FANTASTIC but others look drab. I hope more of the game bears the look of the former.
Yamane returning is a plus, I cannot wait to hear the music.
What i really miis at the new 2D Castlevania games, is the voice over at dialogues. Why they don't put voices for the characters? Many other games like Resident Evil, FF Crystal Chronicles, they have voices at dialogues. I don't think that it is so hard for them to do it.I imagine that would take up a lot of space. I'd rather have a longer game than voice actors.
If OoE was having voice over, for me it would be the most awesome Castlevania after Symphony! :)
In Reply To #349My only problem with voiceovers is that they distract from the most important part of development, they're expensive, and they're rarely worth it. I remember when I played Megaman ZX Advent- horrible. I wish they had spent more time on the game.
Maybe, but FF Chronicles is in 3D and it is a big game with voice over and it is 128mb. So i don't think that it is impossible for it to have voice over!
Archaic Sealed Heat is 256mb so it is possible! The only problem it will be that the producing cost will get higher!
In Reply To #351I don't want to push our luck with this game, that's all.
You are right, but i think since Symphony for psx was great with the voice over, why not another one?
In Reply To #356
No, you are not wrong and i wanted voice overs so it would have better atmosphere the whole game! It would have been nice to hear a voice talking the events of the story!
When did Iga said that Kojima's artwork was no good for the DS? Where do you people get most of these statements at?
In Reply To #364
I agree. People will complain nonetheless. Especially when you get to American VA vs Japanese VA. ::)
It's the Castle...
Speaking of music, I am SO curious about the soundtrack... I've been having some doubts about Yamane lately.. can she come up with something new? ... PoR was good, but also predictable at times. And the best songs weren't even made by her, but by Koshiro. IMO.
It is a nice change to see an artstyle somewhat similar to Kojima but without the male characters looking like women.
Which ones did Koshiro-san do anyway?
I think he did something else too.. just can't remember what it was.
I'd rather have CD quality music rather than waste the space on voice overs. :P
Correct me if I am wrong, but a CD-ROM is 700MB, the largest NDS cartridge is 2Gbit = 2000Mbit = 2000/8MB = 250MB (256MB if you say the G is not G, but Gi).
Tell me again how 250MB is more than 700MB?
Serio once told me that a DS cart can hold up to 4G, the same as a DVD.
Nintendo DS games use a proprietary solid state ROM game card format resembling the memory cards used in other portable electronic devices such as digital cameras. It currently supports cards up to 2 gigabit (2048 Mb or 256 MB) in size (with ASH: Archaic Sealed Heat being the first DS game to use a 2 gigabit card),[21][22] which is four times the amount of memory that the largest Nintendo 64 cartridge was able to store (512 Mb or 64 MB). The cards always have a small amount of flash memory or an EEPROM to save user data such as game progress or high scores. The game cards are 33.0 mm

It fits for some characters... but sometimes she takes it to far, best examples being Juste and Maxim.
In Reply To #381
Dammit, every time I open my mouth when it comes to technical crap I get schooled. All apologies to Serio; I've probably misrepresented what you told me and my ignorance on the subject shouldn't reflect on anybody but me.
I wanna see that sunset level.
Is anybody else really happy about the outside-of-castle moments?
I wish they would have truly animated an opening instead of animating still pictures.
That waterfall in the trailer looks identical with the one in SOTN.
It's nice that they atleast remaked The Creature.

Man, if the main character was a male Belmont I'd be all over this. I just don't like the fact that you have to play as a woman. I want to save the girl, not play as her.
That is such a sexist remark. You can't accept that a girl like Shanoa would be tough enough to save herself? I mean, hell, she's out to save the entire world, actually, because the Belmonts somehow wussed out.
Did anyone else notice Shanoa doing a Double Reppuken at 2:37?
This game will rock.
In Reply To #409
It's not sexist at all.
My guess is you actually are chased up that tower by the crab creature, and then actually knock the elevator from the top to eventually crush it.
I don't give a shit if it's sexist or not. That's how I feel. I can't relate to a woman protagonist.
In Reply To #427
After watching the trailer again, i noticed at the end of it, that those balloon enemies, are looking like the alien boss from Super Metroid.
From what i have seen at the sea level, it has swordfishes! Also if i remember correctly, the name of the boss from super metroid was fantun!
That waterfall in the trailer looks identical with the one in SOTN.it looks more like dos's. sotn version used a superior additive blending effects while both dos and this here seem to use a simple transluscency.

In Reply To #448
You do, just not rationally.
People are complaining about ONE trailer-exclusive song from a game that's not due for release until late Fall and using that to judge the entire game's soundtrack?
Talk about wild assumptions.
More plain rectangular rooms, hooray. Not to mention the waterfall room and the caves look like they're out of a GBA.
Would you guys be happier if the rooms were octagons instead?
That's one of the big issues of Inu-Yasha, which has to be one of the most CHICK-ish animes I've ever seen(it reminds me of the anime equivalent of the Gilmore Girls).
Then there would be Chuck Norris and ninjas.
"It must be ninjas *echoing*"
Serio, I think a lot of those are just drawings they move around screen. If you're talking about her hair and where she raises her head, that might be 3D. But it's more likely Flash, or that they just cut pieces from her hair in the picture and moved them around like segmented sprites. It doesn't look to me like cel-shading at all.yeah that's possible. i know pork's entire intro was cel shaded 3d, but this one seems to be flash based except the initial animation which differed in style a bit.
I would say the general conclusion that males are superior for combat is a result of history not letting females have a go at it. They were largely forced into submissive roles, and usually due to religion. Even still today... But times are changing.Okay, I didn't want to get involved with this argument, but I disagree- religion and social expectations evolved as a RESULT of women's inferiority in combat, not the other way around.
...and about OoE: Guys, you gotta remember that there's a reason why it may be delayed to 09. They're putting a lot of work into this. Unless they're working on that rumored Wii game right now or something, much of this will be improved.
...come to think of it that is a legitimate concern. Dividing development time between these two projects could totally ruin Order of Ecclesia.
Where are people getting this idea that it will be delayed? It's slated for August in Japan. Release date has been set. Castlevania is also not a series accustomed to delays... leave that to Nintendo's stuff.I remember reading that IGA said that there's a potential for a delay into 09. I could always go dig up the article.
The game is far enough along from what I see. I don't think any development switch will 'totally ruin it'; as many have said the ESRB already rated it. That means they have enough to go on to be confident that nothing drastic is going to change before release.
I would think a different team would be set up for the Wii title, whatever the hell that turns out to be. It's possibly not a full game anyways... or a game at all.
In Reply To #481
Most people that say those things are largely comparing the current sprites back to the higher-quality and more professionally-executed Symphony of the NIght sprites.
Yes.
Music-wise, the composition is lacking, but it is evident that Michiru Yamane (finally) took a leap forward in sample quality. She is using the same samples used to make the Castlevania Chronicles game on the PSP. It's called "East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra." I would know, because I use them myself and i'd recognize those strings anywhere.I still say the animated intro's theme sounded great. But the gameplay theme sounded meh. Not bad in any way, but not intriguing.
The improvement in quality, and somewhat lackluster composition from Yamane is making me wonder...
There is probably a next-gen Castlevania in the works. Of course, there are rumors of the Wii Castlevania. I remember in an interview that if there were to be a next gen Castlevania, IGA wanted it to look "absolutely beautiful," and Michiru Yamane promised it will "sound beautiful" so it makes sense that they would adopt new sound samples for a next gen game.
Yamane hasn't gotten comfortable with how to use the samples to their full potential, but so far she's sounding good. The reason why I believe her music for Order of Ecclesia is sounding...average, is because she working hard on her next-gen soundtrack.
Anyway, yeah, that's what I think.

That guy has some good stuff on his site, but seriously, don't you think the guy already doing the art for OoE is alot better?
I just now finally watched the trailer, and I must admit I'm disappointed. The overall presentation seems fairly bright and cartoonish. The 'glyph' magic animations are fairly novel-looking, but the general effect of the art design-outside of the great character portraits-is kind of flat and uninspired. Hopefully, this will be one of those games that trailers just don't do justice to.They don't usually show the best areas in the trailers anyway. I'm sure there'll be some great areas as well as some duds.
Why didn't anybody like the first song the trailer played?
Try listening to it with headphones.
Why didn't anybody like the first song the trailer played?

Glyphs look like the soul system, just renamed, sprites are insanely bright colored, backgrounds look relatively uninspired and dull, animations aren't too great, and the opening animation made me cry. It really did. You're entitled to your opinion, but you must have had VERY high standards for this game if it let you down so badly.
Ah.. It's good to know that if I'm bored, I can always come over here with a bowl of popcorn, and read some of these complaints. So so amusing!
You people are so entertaining. The award goes to Clara, though.
The voices annoy me anyway. I wish there was an option to turn them off, or a music/sfx balance meter.
...I have yet to find such an option.it's in dos and pork. in dos it's on title screen in sound config. in pork it's in start menu then config.
As long as there's an option to change to japanese voice-samples, I'll be happy. And I think there will be.
For some reason Americans don't know how to dub right, it always comes off as funny or halfassed.
If someone says something stupid like this again i will have to unleash my rant on this topic.
Aaaaaaaaaaand this is the reason why this topic should be put to rest and a new one should be started...

I really hope the final translation ends up being Chanoix because A) it's French and fits the European theme of Castlevania better and B) Shanoa is a dumb, awkward name.

Those Oreos DO look kinda good. Never seen them before.
You've NEVER had Oreos before?! Are you deprived of American culture??!!
Anyway, while we don't know exactly what system this new game will come out on, isn't it awesome we'll be getting a second CV in some form? Some people think it will just be a port of Curse of Darkness. It's possible, but I hope this isn't the case, because that game does not connect very well to the OoE era; seeing as how it would have to go through both Rondo and SOTN's first.
On the other hand, I could see COD or LOI for that matter benefiting from the Wii's unique controls.
Didn't anybody notice "Shanoa" sounds a lot like "Oana" which is a typical Romanian name.
How do you prenouce Chanoix by the way?
Some people think it will just be a port of Curse of Darkness.
Or maybe it's a port of Order of Shadows
In Reply To #589
Maybe the offer differs because they are produced by different companies. It's Nabisco in the US and Kraft foods in europe.
Anyway, let's get back 2 topic... Well, those hairs of Shanoa must be a pain to take care of.

Man, that'd suck.
Besides: according to Wikipedia those special white choc ones as well as mini-oreos are only available in germany. Is that true? That'd be the first time I got something you can't. xDb

Yeah, of course you can get the mini Oreos, I'm eating them right now! But I don't think I've ever heard of white chocolate covered Oreos. Oh well, I'm off to Germany!

His hair just wasn't pulling off the trademark 'Soma shag'.
The succubus is okay, too, because her clothes were real nice.
In Reply To #638
Whay do you all like that succi cosplay? She looks like an elderly Japanese woman! With Wrinkles! WRINKLES!!!
What's wrong with using a female character? I loved using Carrie from Castlevania 64 and Legacy of Drakness because she kicked ass! And Samus is a girl too! Not all girls in games are like Princess Peach. Although I heard that she got her own game? It looked really bad. Has anyone played it?
I'm not much for the cartoon art. It's too...I don't know..."kiddy?"
THIS coming from someone with Pikachu in their avatar?
dude Soma is gay, he will not get laid by Mina, and she wants it from him and we all know it but he wont do it because all he wants to do is get close to Genya Arikado, but Genya Arikado is Alucard and he's not gay because he got laid by Maria Renard, probably Succubus, and Sonia Belmont... oh yeah Soma also goes for Julius because he has the whip.
the fact that she goes after him doesn't mean he'll become a hypocrite and give up on his beliefs he kept for over 300 years, just for the hell of it. :oI still think they ended up together but didn't do anything. Which is sad.

You know, that's true. The press kept sneaking in complaints about how hard DXC was. It is hard, but it's also fun because of it. It's much more rewarding to finally best a boss or solve a tough secret. That is, if some recent fans actually have the patience or the skill to best the boss rather than just put the game down.
In Reply To #680Yeah, but Alucard wasn't exactly the type to show his emotions to begin with. You never know. :P
yeah, but then again, what sotn showed was one sided love. alucard didn't seem to care for either maria or richter, and just went back home once his job was done. :o

That'd be cool. Btw I just now saw that the woman next to succubus has some nice boobies.
What i would really like to see on a new Castlevania game is something from Vagrant Story. In Vagrant to obtain 100% you were having to finish the game and played it again so that you'll be able to enter previous areas that they were loked with a marke sign called the Blood rode.
you can't reach the level 5' - secret docks on your first playthrough. it's unlocked after you beat dracula.
That level's locked for a reason.
It's hard

I'm referring to DXC. Rondo wasn't all that hard by comparison.
There is a small article about OoE in the new Game Informer (Page 72).
Well, I recall something about the "vampire mythos" being why he didn't really want a female character as the lead. Maybe he's changed his mind aboot that? :D;;
I don't get why he thinks dracula has to be in EVERY game. Hopefully he's changed his mind about that so we can see what the belmonts are doing between the 11th and 15th centuries.
In Reply To #714
Why not have Mathias as the lead for most it,....
Sounds good but who would serve as the main villian?
In Reply To #728
How do you know this? Did we get some sort of confirmation?
And why the hell did they have to add those stupid arrows for everything. We've been playing cv for years, we know how to enter and leave rooms! Come on, IGA..
No, actually it probably wasn't.
Those shafts' only purpose is, to get rid of traitors. They are thrown down there. If they don't simply die of the impact, they get killed by ghosts in the dusty, withered rooms. The real monks live ONLY on the top floors. They have entire gardens on the roofs of the monastery, where they grow crops and stuff. The rooms below are only to get rid of waste, they also are the sewers of the monastery.
Hey, it was probably his idea to add those arrows. You never know. I just think it distracts from the flow of the game.
mathias did grow in power with his crimson stone though. it'd be possible that at one point he was going around the europe, killing other vampires, absorbing their souls for power and forcing others like olrox or carmilla into life of servitude for him.
Wow, we have no lives.
Um, I think the fact that we're spending our Saturday night on a video game forum instead of going out and living already proves this, don't you think?
I wonder if Shanoa can use a secret prostitution repeatable
side quest to make money faster?
because I heard rumors in OoE, tons of cash is essential to unlock a special alternate castle, but an npc has the key.
/Sarcasm onwtf a skeleton mode would rock.
So here's looking foreward to Skeleton and Bat mode.

cv has been doomed ever since it lost its ability to be dignified, and that happened when they added animu humour and turned the series into saturday morning cartoon style game. now all it needs are disney characters to finish it off. i mean, judgement is already compared to kh on other forums.

Can he even read English? And maybe if enough people sent such letters then it would actually be brought to his attention... At least it'd show him what the fans really want. No, but there are fans who can translate and THEN send the letter.
what if Albus actually IS Quincey? :o..That would be nice. 8D And cool and all.
would be a funny twist at least, in the otherwise cliche and predictable stuff people were saying here.
The problem is it wouldn't fit in with Bram Stoker's Dracula if he was Quincey, would it? o_Oit's not like bram stoker's dracula had vampire killer or a family that hunted dracula for almost 1000 years.

And I'm hoping it won't be maily about that. Though this does seem to add up, I don't think Iga will really go ith anything we're saying. Here's his story:
Shanoa is a Belmont. Albus is just a guy. He is under Dracula's mind control(sound familiar?) Shanoa kills him= bad ending. Shanoa goes out of her way to save a guy who probably attempted to kill many times= good happy ending. Unless you lose to the big mass of garbage in the crazy twisted world. But after you win, Shanoa continues on the Belmont Lagacy, yadda yadda yaddda. I guarentee we'll get some overused crap like that.

It was too long and drawn out, 1 castle would have sufficed instead of two identical ones.
Castlevania is supposed to be confusing! Otherwise, it's too easy.
In Reply To #875
I dunno, but was the inverted castle really needed? I think it's more like... something to increase playtime. They used the same musics all over, they stuffed it pointlessly with enemies and you don't really have to go anywhere, if you just head for Drac. Besides, the Castle isn't really designed for being inverted. You have to jump/fly/superjump so often that it gets really annoying.

They didn't have use Vampire Killer. In CotM, the whip used is referred to as the Hunter's Whip, or something similar.
I read a Nintendo Power at the store the other day and I was surprised and happy with the new artwork (and new artist) It's still somewhat reminiscent of Ayame Kojima's but everyone isn't feminine men in trenchcoats or feminine women in trenchcoats. The one thing that was weird though, was that the badguy's design was almost -EXACTLY- like Balthier's in Final Fantasy 12
I haven't been paying much attention to recent news either. That's what I use this site for! ;D
I heard somewhere (I can't remember) That this game actually has nothing to do with Dracula.
I should hope Death makes an appearance. I would prefer him appear as a character, not just a boss, but I find it unlikely. I think Death DESERVES a role as an actual character, but Konami apparently disagrees.

In Reply To #935
Yaaaaaay, no more touch screens! ;D
In Reply To #936
I just don't like the touch screen in Castlevania, especially for Dawn of Sorrow.
it was ok as a platformer, though uninspired and with boring level design. it just didn't feel like castlevania, more like some random cartoon turned into game. so it sucked as castlevania, but as a game it was passable, there are far worse games.
though this is a cv forum/community/fandom, so obviously the "as a castlevania" counts much more here. :o
Sad Face....Iga should try to get his 3d's back up because they have so much potential and he is falling back to 2d. I like 2d but I prefer 3d any day. The only problem Iga had in the 3d games was textures, havoc, and castle layout.
Perhaps the 3D games are going to be released on PS3 or XBox360.
In Reply To #948
What if the Wii controls for Judgement are terrible and ruin the game and it turns out a total disaster? Then, there's always the chance that Iga could abandon the Wii controls, moving on to another console. It really could go either way, though I think your prediction is more likely.
You know that will never happen ;D
Wii games HAVE been having a lot of trouble using the wiimote thus far
Even more remarkable, they seem to forget that a little title called 'Dracula X Chronicles' never experimented with any gimmicks.Other than a proper use of 2,5D.
LOI had more platforming than COD, but COD had a much larger world, better gameplay additions, better battle system and boss fights. since Trevor was a bonus unlockable, his whip moveset wasn't as deep as Leon's,
as its shown that they focused more on Hector.
when making a 3-D game, IGA shouldn't forget to make sure
the level design is varied like the 2-D ones, with
lots of platforming, puzzles, traps, secrets, etc. etc.
but overall, CoD was a great improvement over LOI.
With the exception of Portrait of ruin, the castles in the GBA and DS games all have a similar layout of "long hallway, chasm or giant open space with lots of tiny platforms"pork was faulty of that as well, even more so because it had tiny floating platforms that weren't even parts of the background.
It all looks kind of samey. It looks good, and of a high quality, just sorta uninspired. The music in the vids was awful.
I agree though, the boss fight was kinda underwhelming, I mean Dullahan put up a decent fight in PoR.
In Reply To #1005
This is unbelievable! :o
Im convinced that the DS is severely hampering likely hood of other music....i say IGA should switch gears and develop on the psp. DXC had some awesome quality. (although moon fight needed some more mastering, it has this annoying click throughout the whole song.)
As for the music, I'm in the middle.
Also, we've only actually heard one song (unless I missed something :P) and it was the backround theme to a rather unexciting level. There's always the chance it may improve as the game progresses.Well, if you count them, we got a VERY brief preview of the titlescreen music (which sounds unusually synthesized for a castlevania game) and the intro cinematic. I'm sure there'll be one or two tracks to adore, but it will be varied. Hopefully we'll get some greats on par with Victorian Fear from PoR. :D
Seems there are some shapeshifting-glyphs. The screens look great. I am very curious about OoE.Blah.
By the way, anyone who says the DS can't pull off high quality music... please play Final Fantasy Tactics A2.
Based on those pictures, I'd say that Shanoa has a number of transformation powers, one of which makes her look like BitchWolf (Castlevania: Akumajo Dracula X68000/Chronicles reference).
That's what she looks like in the screenshot with the dinosaur skeleton.

Also about the PSP, if it didn't have that blurring effect on screen, at 2D games, it would be OK. Playing Symphony and having that yellow blur it was hurting my eyes. Now you can say that you don't have to play it on PSP's screen, but connect it on TV and play it. Then i'll tell you, that if i want it to play a Castlevania game on TV, then it should be on a home console and not on a handheld console.
Same here. I loved the trailer, therefore I love that opening. :)
you should play DXC serio my homedawg. It's old skewl Castlevania acshan :D

I'm liking how this game is turning out... even though Like I said before, that orange/red crustacean thing looks like a Contra 2 rehash, and now this...

castle keep is speculated, but seeing as it's iga and that dracula is already announced, it'll obviously be in.
If we count all the dark/evil/reversed/B versions of the areas, Sotn had around 27.
They could have SO many cool areas in this game. I really think they should include one of the mansions from Simon's Quest (albeit bigger and more detailed), complete with a Dwelling of Doom remix
In Reply To #1159
I just want them to add more platforming into Castlevania (thus my topic, "Castlevanian Obstacles") because it makes it more challenging as opposed to casual RPG stuff. I mean, come on! They put QUESTS in Portrait of Ruin! All platforming is now gone. It's not just platforming either. Obstacles other than enemies are rare. One of the things I actually LIKED about Portrait of Ruin was that there were obstacles like using both characters to hit switches or push blocks and the rolling boulders in the desert ruins level. I hope they add some more of that stuff.
I JUST BEAT STAGE 16 IN THE CASTLEVANIA ADVENTURE! :o
That's true, but areas at OoE are supposed to be bigger, making the game play hours more than Symphony.yeah, but if the "bigger areas" means rooms will repeat themselves even more than in cod/pork, i dunno if i want them to be bigger.

You sir, speak the truth.
and the soundtrack used the best quality audio of the bunch (HOD and AOS would feature more fuzz in their music output).
I'm not saying CotM doesn't have fuzz too, but HoD had way more, and AoS only did a little better.
Maxim mode and figuring out all his combos a la Richter Belmont, and the not-so-obvious hard mode, no magic mode, and I think there's another one. And there's also Boss Rush, and Simon boss rush which was vindicated if only for the completion screen.
Not as exciting as, say, finding new areas or rooms, but eh.
I kind of lost Portrait of Ruingood riddance >:(
In Reply To #1248well my opinion on it is about as biased as yours on zelda, but i'd suggest either the original pc game or the awesome snes remake done by konami.
Are you serious?! I'll have to play them some time...Which is best?
In Reply To #1290
Well, you have the credits theme. And the arranged version of Chapel of Dissonance, butchered by Takashi Yoshida (composer of AoS's boss themes, if that's any indication.) I need to make a generator of his music- you just need to have blaring "epic" sounds, randomly roll them into one, and there you go, an example of his music.
Other than that, there were none for CotM, three for AoS, and none of the orchestrated versions from DoS were ever released.
For those who DO like the Monastery theme, I am working on a MIDI of it. Hopefully this will be a lot more clear than the trailer versions, and it will be the song complete. I started work on it off of the video with the French guy speaking, and I had to use multiple videos just to put the puzzle together.
I have to admit though, it's not one of Michiru's stronger pieces. I mean the first few riffs grow repetitive almost immediately. After that the song gets better, though.

And btw, for all who lust for Ecclesia music:
I'm currently working on the first two trailer tunes on the piano. I will shurely soon be ready, the thing is, I still can't record in high quality. ._.
If it's any consolation, it's not the sound quality that counts; it's the quality of the pianist that counts. So what? As long as it sounds like the game's music, it should be good enough. At least until the actual game comes out. Hopefully, it will have a sound test so that we can listen to the music without having to actually play. What would be even better is if there is a sound track released. By the way, are there sound tracks to the other games in stores? I can never find any and there isn't any Cv music available on iTunes.
Unless it really sounds that wretched. Then you'll probably be exiled to the end of the internet.
So what?
In Reply To #1336Prime 1 had an amazing soundtrack. Have you heard the Alternate Title Theme?
I prefer many many things in Metroid over CV, but not the music. Which is maybe because I really enjoy classical music, doesn't matter if modern or classic. The Metroid soundtracks (aside from M2) are really great though.

I really like the new box art a lot. The backgrounds remind me of castlevania IV's or the nes ones. Albus also looks really badass walking up those stairs. I wish Shanoa (Doesn't konami have a character called klonoa or something?) wasn't the main character. So far glyph powers just don't seem very interesting to me. we'll see I guess. Oh well.
I have a feeling there'll be "Q-Bert" mode. Don't ask me why: it's just a horrible hunch I've been having lately.
Yeah, I think Richter is getting pretty old as well...I mean, how many games have we played as him? Rondo, Symphony, Dracula X Chronicles, PoR...it goes on and on n_n
I doubt Shanoa could ever come close to Klonoa's awesomeness. Then again, no one can. Klonoa is a pimp.

Random thought but relevant to the topic: Hey Kamirine, do you think this game and Judgment will be at the conference you go to? Or have you already gone?
I'm playing Albus mode on the new CV arcade right now! He doesn't shoot the gun, he just pistol-whips the skeletons over and over.

Awww....
Japan gets everything good :(
Play-Asia gets everything we need :P Although the price has been doubled, but its a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

I wonder if the soundtrack is for this game only. If so, I hope they offer us something different for the American preorder.
http://www.konamistyle.jp/sp/dracula_ds3/
Apparently, there's going to be a special edition version of the game coming out. It comes with the game, a 2 disc soundtrack and a book, though I can't translate the page well enough to say if it's just a book, the case everything comes in (in the form of a book) or a really awesome looking art book.
Here's a really decent translation of the page you linked to:
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.konamistyle.jp/sp/dracula_ds3/&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://www.konamistyle.jp/sp/dracula_ds3/%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG
Pretty cool stuff...50 song sound-track, but I still can't really tell what the book is...
edit: Oh, I get it now..."Dracula's stolen marking" is the direct translation of the Japanese name of the game. It appears to be a book of images and notes about the game.
And I'm sure if a person tried hard enough (Note: I'm not that person. Grin )you could say that NitM and MoD are actually metaphoric meanings, to which they would still make sense and pertain to the story.

My english are also not perfect! Though i can speak very well, i can't say the same about writing, that's why i use a lexicon when i'm writng here. ;D
Also i 've just start learning japanese and all i can say is that they are very difficult. I know all hiragana, katakana and now i'm learning kanji and verbes. I can barely speak japanese, but i can read them very well, even if i don't know what they mean! ;)
So... the Limited Edition is $120 on Play-Asia? Is it really worth it?
Buy it and find out. Then when you're disusted and don't want to even look at it anymore, give it to me. ;D

No sweat. There are many non-english people like you and me on this forums. And actually I think your english is pretty good.

Ok! *buys* I just hope you're ready to pay me $150 for it.
I just want someone to buy the damn thing for the ridiculous price that is 120 bucks, and then upload the soundtrack for me to grab. :D
Deal?

Hiragana are more easy from katakana. Also kanji are another story.....

That's actually interesting that the direct translation for this game is "Dracula's Stolen Marking".
ya think saving the villagers might populate a town better?
Did the Japans get the PoR preorder? Or was it exclusive for just the US?

In Reply To #1531I find Shanoa to be much more attractive than Laura.
No, it's not just you... Laura is like, the hot version of Shanoa.
The woman's name is "Laura the Jewler" and the man is "George the Musician". My guess it that you'll find jewels, similar to HoD and SotN, and be able to ell them to Laura for cash to spend at the Merchant's place(whoever he/she might be...).
You guys are horny, unyuu~
omg owls on shanoa's shoulders, how unoriginal ::)Their probably familiars.
Is Barlow a good guy or bad guy?
Barlow turning out to be the bad guy is most likely the plot twist in this game.

In Reply To #1564Actually, being that Legends is no longer a part of the official cannon, Alucard is not Trevor's father. Alucard has no blood ties to the Belmonts at all. He is just one of their most powerful allies.
[sarcasm]Oh yeah, and Alucard is father of Trevor...sigh.[/sarcasm]
What is the big idea? a great family battle? :-\
I am still for the idea that the Belmonts' blood is cursed.
and then she was soma cruz. if she loses the battle gainst the evil in her soul, she becomes the new dracula, like soma did in aos when he lost the battle against the evil in his soul. :o :o :o

Could be, but this shot also may suggest another HoD style furniture collecting room.
The interesting thing is. There's a level-switch door to her right, yet there is no way forward. This is indeed a closed space, but the way the village has looked in screens, it doesn't seem a house would be arranged perpendicular to the village. All the houses were in the background.
oh well...Why?
i dont really like the idea of entering through outside doors by pressing up like in Simon's Quest (...)
"Loli Shanoa and adult Erimocard. Sittin' in the tree.
In Reply To #1660Yeah and aren't the glyphs suppose to have special attacks too?
It's actually a little more interesting than that considering the glyphs also constitute the games "standard" weaponry. More like Soul System meets CotM's cards perhaps.
so, no fall down+die death after all.Watch the IGN video where she fights the first boss, she pretty clearly falls when she dies. Maybe she has a different animation if she's killed in the air, that'd be kinda cool.

I love how everybody is all frantic and whiny about the death animation....
Maybe we'll get environmental based deaths, like if she's killed in the water, her body maybe disperses as if it were melting, killed by fire, she bursts into flames, etc.
Pardon my ignorance, but didn't SoTN *kind* of have that? Although you still disintegrated, you disintegrated in different ways depending on what element killed you--if it was a normal attack, just blood, but if it was electricity, you'd kind of burn up while sheathed by sparks, fire, little flames would dance around as you crumbled into ashes, ice, an ice cube would surround you, etc.
I thought it was kewl, prunyuu~

I especially like 1:05 and forward.
I really wanna hear the Ecclesia HQ theme though. It sounds great, but the muthafukkas who're plaing the game in the trailers never stay in the area long enough for it to kick in!
Yeah, I need this game too ASAP... I'm forcing myself through Curse of Darkness as we speak, trying really hard not to fall asleep every 15 minutes. (I could've sworn the Abandoned Castle took me 8 hours to go through, but in reality I only spent some 45 minutes there. It just felt sooooo damn long. And Hector is soooo slow.)

There's nothing wrong with it, but there are other songs I'd rather have. Songs that haven't been in a game for millions of years. Neglected classics such as Monster Dance, Mad Forest or... dunno... Reincarnated Soul!
Not to mention all the great SCV4 tunes.
The guy beside Shanoa in the art looks like such a total Balthier ripoff. He'll probably seduce her I'm guessing.

My apologies if this was posted before, but in the art Kamirine posted, did anyone notice that Shanoa and Albus stand on two different staircases?
Also refresh my memory-in the past 2 ds games, was L only used for backdash or were there combos involving it? I'd check myself but the DS is back at home.
My L button's microswitch is dead and if there is more to using the L button than backdashing I may have to try getting a new ds before october.
Unless you change the config, L only ever is used for backdash and superjump, save for sisters mode, which used it to change characters
I think the L and R buttons of the DS-lite are more stabile. Maybe you'll pick up one of those.
Looks like the old exploding into blood death animation is back T_TOnly when you die in midair.
Only when you die in midair.This. IGN has a video of her dying completely differently, down to her scream, and she most certainly falls to the ground on that one.
I don't know why, but I really dig the underwater music. It sounds really chilly, along with the music in the mountains. It kind of reminds me of AoS(for some reason) and SFIII: TS.
In Reply To #1816If anything, it would be the other way around, why go through all the work of creating a place holder like that when you could just make a place holder of her floating in the air?
I saw that video too, semianonymous my friend. However, that video was released quite a while ago. My sixth sense tells me that was just a 'placeholder' death animation and the one we saw in the most recent videos and pics is the death animation they're going to go with. Mayhap I be wrong, though...I certainly hope so.
his game takes place during the 1800's in which machine guns and the idea for them didn't exist yet.yeah so? cod, which was set in 1400s had a gatling gun. :o
Anyways, I just watched the IGA interview, by beating hardmode/connecting to Judgment, you raise the level cap.
yeah, you raise it. Normally its 99. now?
255.
yeah. Awesome.
After seing these new videos all i can say this game is looking awesome!! :o I have to feel so excited from when Aria came out for GBA!!What's the point of that? :o
Now what i heard from the interview, IGA says that if you are able to finish the hard mode you are rewarded with the ability to level up until 255Lv instead of 99Lv.
In Reply To #1829This is IGA we're talking about, he most likely either just rocks that much at this game, or its still not a finished build.
Also, guis, did you see the last video, number 4? Take a look at Shanoa's status screen...apparently, the player got a 96.40% completion rate within 5 hours, 23 minutes, and 28 seconds.

True.
I dunno. So far I'm liking this soundtrack better than PoR's. I wish there was a sample or video of the theme that plays while your in Ecclesia, it's one of my favorite songs in the game.
I like both songs though I think I like the mountain theme more. Esp. the part that plays right at the point where she's leaving the room where the zombie? horse is riding around.

Yeah, that actually sounds likely.
Otherwise IGA have some serious explaining to do.
"I swear, it was all Michiru Yamane's fault! The woman's insane, she had me drugged up, and in my state of euphoria, I told Masaki to make Aeon into a fat man!""No no no. You see, he's a fat man because the people I work with managed to get me drunk and have the Nutty Professor choose how he should look like and then wedidsomestuffandthenwejustgothekfsnfws ......*passes out*"
Otherwise IGA have some serious explaining to do.no no you see, aeon was supposed to be a fat man. obata talked me into redesigning him and turned him into a hermaphrodite pretty boy like others. see eric ricardo.
(perhaps wiping out Nathan Graves's and Cornell's quests from the timeline in the process or creating a divergent timeline for them??)IGA was responsible for that not Aeon.
Second, this makes me wonder if perhaps the native time period for the game Judgment is right after the events of Order of Ecclesia.
Maybe Aeon steals the Dominus Glyph and uses it on a clock to gain control over time...then he takes Shanoa and all her CV buddies to his magical battle arena for the events of Judgement???good theory
The main site has updated also.I see they have the little short comics again and music samples.
http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/dracula_ds3/
This info has been taken from DS Fanboy!!I know for a fact I posted that on CoR, and possibly here. Odd.
IGA reveals the extra modes in Ecclesia: a hard mode accessible by completing the game, and a mode with a higher (255) level cap unlocked by beating that hard mode -- or by connecting Judgment on the Wii with Order of Ecclesia.
Link here:http://www.dsfanboy.com/2008/09/16/iga-talks-castlevania-plays-castlevania/
So, that means that the 255lv cap is a different mode from the main mode, so chances are here that it will have enemies and bosses with more HP and even harder. Also you don't need to connect it with wii to unlock it!!
I'd rather play as Richter again.Having Richter as an extra mode would be such a waste, not to mention how whored out he's gotten. It wouldn't even make sense to have him.
Having Richter as an extra mode would be such a waste, not to mention how whored out he's gotten. It wouldn't even make sense to have him.
That's kind of my point; I'd rather play a pointless and uninvolving run-through with Richter than a hard mode or higher level cap mode. I was pointing out that even the crappy unlockables in previous games (Sisters mode being one of the worst examples) are more interesting than what we're seeing about this game's easter eggs. It's kinda obvious that the game will have another mode besides Hard Mode. Every other game with Hard Mode has had a extra character mode. They usually never reveal the extra character modes anyway. The only exception was Richter in a PoR trailer.
It wouldn't make sense to have Richter. It takes place after the events of SotN, but not right after. This game takes place after the Belmonts have disappeared until 1999. No returning characters should be in other than Dracula and Death, especially not Richter and Alucard.it would make more sense than for example portrait which brought back the zombies of richter and maria back after 100 years.
c) Alucard (except between Dracula's Curse and SoTN)Why Alucard? Not only would it not make sense most of the time to add him, but he's only been an extra playable character in one game(not counting CV3).
If there's going to be an unlockable character, it's gotta be Albus.the same thing was said about isaac in cod, and we got trevor instead. :P
I think PoR having Richter and Maria was a bad move. It should've been Eric Lecarde as the secret character.Or better yet, John Morris and Eric Lecarde. It would have made way more sense than Richter and Maria.
however the puzzels are 'too hard'lol

copy/paste levels ;-;
I think maybe 'cut-and-paste' may be more like this:but that's exactly how portrait felt, and i'm speaking about the entire game. it had many rooms that looked identical to ones you just walked through. :o
If your in the Monastary room A, then go to room B and C, once you enter room D, it looks just like room A. But as long as it's not recoloring like in PoR, I'm fine.
While you guys over-analyze, I'll enjoy the game.
In Reply To #1996I believe he's in a room with boss doors.
Yea, but I'm not talking about the skull with the worms coming out of its every orifice, I'm talking about the skeleton in the dark area with the lights. The one that.. kicks you. Or something. I don't remember it being a boss in the trailers, but I may be completely wrong here.
Hahahahah
I reserved a copy from my local GameStop... will I have to ask for one?
The mana regenerates quickly enough but this unnecessarily caps your offensive capabilities and often leaves you in vulnerable in sticky situations.so wait, once the magic runs out you get immobile and incapacitated, or somehow devoid of skill to avoid the enemy? or does it somehow remove your armor, making you more vulnerable?
So this game actually does take some strategy to play it.and that's good to hear. the battle system's been getting stale and boring, what with lots of worthless weapons you don't even use, and how you could defeat many bosses and enemies by just mashing the attack button and hope you'll outlast them.
"The Boss fights will also frustrate you as you'll usually defeat them only after learning their patterns and there are confusing environmental puzzles that have no clear solution."QFT.
This has to be one of the dumbest criticisms I've ever read in a video game review. The point of boss battles, hell, even lesser enemy battles is to learn, and therefore exploit, their attack patterns. It's called strategy.
Though I do wonder, that glowing red sword Shanoa holds on the cover on the game and that's used on the back cover, if it's important. (Could that be Dominus?) I just *assumed* that Dominus might be the whip glyph that was asked about and IGA skirted around the answer to.I guess I've assumed from the start that the Dominus glyph is a variation on Soma's power of Dominance, i.e. it allows you to steal the soul of an enemy. That would explain why it's so important, and why Albus (or whatever his name is) steals it at the start. On the other hand, Dominus is simple Latin for "Lord," so who knows?
Maybe there's a Dominus for several emotions (Joy, Sorrow, and maybe..I dunno, regret?)

8 more days...man I can't wait.
it's just five or six songs.
I usually import mine from Play_Asia. Though I am going to upload the soundtrack when I get my SE in.
"The most interesting change is the dismantling of the typical "Metroidvania" structure. Instead of a single, giant castle, [the game] offers a world map dotted with locations...each of which is a small self contained level reminiscent of CV games from the 8 and 16-bit eras. Some do have hidden rooms and alternate routes, but many are straight forward levels that offer little in the way of exploration. Instead the focus is squarely on action..."(8/10)
"The host of monsters and ghouls you'll lace on your quest are an imaginative and well-animated lot, and most seem to be completely new."
"Unfortunately, the soundtrack has gone in the exact opposite direction-it's pleasant but generic, with none of the bold compositions and exotic instrument choices that made PoR so extraordinary."
"But the bigger disappointment his how little mileage OoE gets out of its new glyph system. ...The change is little more than semantics; where other CV heroes would equip and swing a sword, Shanoa equips a glyph to make a sword appear in her hands magically. ...The whole thing plays out almost exactly like the Tactical Soul system found in AoS and DoS. ...It's disappointing to see the glyph system merely reorganize the series' traditional arsenal of weapons and spells, without adding much of significance."
"...Hardcore fans will delight in the deeper challenges and more adult look, but with little in the way of new play mechanics, [it] isn't going to find a spot in the Castlevania Hall of Fame".
But there were also games reviewed in this week's issue that you and I actually care about -- not least of which is Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, which hits stores both here and in Japan next week. The third DS Castlevania received two 8's and two 7's for a total of 30 points and a Silver reward, even though most reviewers agreed that it wasn't anything terribly new for the series. "The challenge level is pretty high overall," one said. "If you die, you get thrown back to the last save point, which makes it feel hopeless if this happens against a boss. Definitely for advanced action gamers only." Another reviewer was impressed by the graphics: "The atmospheric visuals are excellent; the characters have a surprising amount of detail drawn into them."(30/40)
"The game's greatness makes suffering through a few poorly designed bosses worth it for hardcore Castlevania fans and 2d action experts. But unlike many other titles in the franchise, I can't recommend this much beyond this limited demographic."(8.25/10)
Those reviewers are morons!!!
I'll take these words and quote them when someone give credit to any bad CastleVania Judgment review.
I just remember one of them came into a save room and... fucking tried to absorb it because he thought it might be a glyph. It really took some time 'til he recognised it as a save spot. Same thing happened when he arrived at the warp room. Only that he just left it at "well, I can't figure it out LOLZ so let's press ahead". He also got hit by practically every skeleton or bat. Fucking retard.People like that should not play videogames
Whoever the guy was that said you get thrown to the last save point when you die to a boss.. Has he never played a Castlevania game before? Who do they hire to review these games? Fucking apes, that's what. That is undeniably an accurate statement. If an decent review is to be made, the reviewers should have at least played the type of game before if not from the same series. Or, if there is an inexperienced person reviewing the game, you also have an experienced person to give some kind of perspective.
"DIS GAEM 2 HRD I DIE 2 BOS LOL ADVNCED GMERS ONLY"

Game Informer's remarks on the bosses actually sound more like Megaman (the old school) bosses to me. Someone at GameFaqs brought this up and I agree.
The "grind" mentality works a bit, but with so much of the game being about instantly available levels one after another (finish one, there's no backtrack to the next), you won't naturally gain levels from just running around from point to point. If you do want to grind - I've done it a few times, for a couple minutes each - you need to make a serious effort to do it, as the game will flow from one level to the next right away.
It's a plus and a minus, in a way. Level to level means you won't spend as much time just exploring, while at the same time the game is huge, and you're always going to new areas. Also, I'm suprised to see that most areas in the game are only 20 - 30 or so rooms thus far (33% in). They are about 1/3 to 1/4 the size of a PoR painting, if I remember right, but there are lots of them. Less backtracking though too; interesting game thus far, but I'm not sure if I'd put it even close to Dawn of Sorrow juuuuust yet. We'll see.
EDIT: Oh and yeah. The bosses are way harder. I'm a gigantic Castlevania fan (like to a sick extent... kind of obsessed) and I've died upwards of 15 times on a single boss. Normally a few runs is fine, but every once in a while one really gets ya with patterns. Not QUITE as hard as something like Contra 4 (or Hard Mode LV1, obviously, which is a blast in previous games), but for a SOTN-design Castlevania game, it's the hardest by far in my opnion. Kinda awesome in that sense. Finally, a game that makes you sweat a little.
From what I can tell it's actually a bit smaller in number, but the same concept, yeah.
Enemies have a certain drop difficulty for them, and once you get it, you can use the attack. Doesn't seem to have the same "build" mechanic though, where you'd get up to nine of the same to expand the power of it (or in PoR, get kills to "master" them). It's more traditional in that sense. Also, as I'm sure other reviews have mentioend, there's the "glyph fusion" which is the new item crush. Differnt combinations of glyphs means different fusin (item crush) attacks, which use the hearts. It's kind of like the original Circle of the Moon DSS card system in that sense, but again, a little simpler, since not every combo makes a new fusion.
I'm catching some Z's, but yeah. Hope that at least cleared a few things up.
EDIT: Comared to CotM, I'd say this is still harder. I hardly ever die in the SOTN-inspired Castlevania games (not bragging; just to lay the facts out) and I've died a lot in this game. It hurts pretty good. I might try more grind tomorrow as I play and see just how much that matters. LV20 at 33% though, and I'm getting rocked pretty good. Hell, I rememeber beating some of the holder GBA games around level 30 or so, if I'm not mistaken...
Ok. Z's for real now.
What I see here is a failure to recognize that there is such a thing as "artificial difficulty".
It's apparent that some here don't realize that bad design can make something frustrating.
What I see them saying in these reviews is not that it is a difficult game, but that because of design flaws there is a large amount of "false difficulty".
They don't go into detail but it most likely revolves around trial and error. It is easy to see how something can seem insurmountable because you are given no idea on how to counter certain situations.
A player should never go into a fight feeling that it's impossible and that only by luck will they be able to defeat an opponent, that is definitive bad design.
Completely unrewarding for the player, because the player didn't really beat anything, they just got lucky.
I really hope that isn't the case, but that sentiment is looking to be wishful thinking.
OOE got an 8.0 in Nintendo Power, whereas DOS and POR got 9.0.
QUESTION: Does this game have platforming with death pits?
Thus far, I haven't seen or heard anything about 'pits of death' yet. Nintendo Power's review was one of two of the reviews I took with a grain of salt to be honest though. (The other being Gamepro's, though admittedly, the latter's made me laugh.)
What the hell!? If there is no backtracking, then aren't we returning to the oldest format of the game design in which we go level by level? No matter I' still getting the game.
It's not clear if that big guy is Ecclesia Aeon or not, but there is some evidence. The big guy is Kokkion(Kokion/Kockion?).
You can return to any part of the map you have already been to, it's basically like the other metroidvanias, the difference is that each section of the "castle" is seperated into different map locations.Ok, I think I get it. The format of this game will be something like a combination of SotN format and the megaman series from capcom, correct?
From what has been said, the game is larger overall than the other recent vanias.
What's so hard to comprehend, I mean Shanoa is in Judgement, why not Aeon in Ecclesia.*facepalm*
Appearantly the game leaked early in Hong Kong, players there are already discussing about the actual game now.

Yeah! Play_Asia is already pre-preparing my order to ship! (It's in Hong Kong.) I didn't think they'd ship it until like, Tuesday.
We know enough about Judgement Aeon to say to think he is in OoE is patently stupid.Because HE ISN'T. That Aeon is highlighted on the screen doesn't mean, he's the fat guy you see. Perhaps the fat guy only tells you things about the other villagers.
He only exists in Judgement to explain why all these characters are able to fight against each other.
And come on, why the hell would he suddenly be some fatass baker?
Well the thing is that fat guy is indeed who is being represented by the name "Aeon".
I think it may be a bad localization.
See Aeon and this fat guy share the same last characters in their names, "イオン".
However the Judgement Aeon is proceeded by only one character.
While the OoE fat guy has a bit more, the names are not identical but for some reason his name was localized as Aeon in the screenshots depicting the korean version.
I think the OoE fat guy is supposed to be called "Ian". The other characters of his name maybe a title which could be transliterated as "cook".
The enemy placement is unusual than previous games, in some areas you have to fight the boss right after entering.

It says bad request!v :'(
I just found two music vinyls. You can change BGM with them. Those which I found have classic 8-bit Castlevania tunes (Heart of Fire and Vampire Killer)
Is that the complete soundtrack? I can't find the rock theme from one of the trailers. If it's there, how is it named?
WITHOUT giving spoilers, were the claims of over 20 areas accurate?
Also, thanks for the upload, superDio! :)
maybe the guy who did the Ecclesia designs didn't like the design of Shanoa in Judgment, so he decided to get even with Obata and turn Aeon into a chubby baker?
Alright guys, I'm renaming this thread to "Order of Ecclesia NON SPOILERS" and I'm making a new topic for spoilers.
And never the twain shall meet.
someone already posted rips of the soundtrack.
Seems like you were right. I bet 20 Erimo Cards it will be Ian, 'cuz Ion would be dumb.
In any event I was correct, since it is not the same person.Oh, I was wonder there for a sec.
Pre-order bonus is an actual CD.
Haha, new example of how hard the game is: my Nintendo DS (luckily the Phat one) decapitated.
When she said her line I was literally screaming "Fuck Yeah!!"
For people in the U.S., does your box and manual have English/French/Spanish?Yup.
Eh. Shanoa doesn't need ridiculous cleavage to be sexy.
plus she's not like a witch
Does Lament to the Master (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XXYDzl7T5w) sound notably similar to Castle Corridor (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HlmOgEYUZk), or is it just me?
